Job Title: Fire Prevention Officer
This role is responsible for providing risk management advice for the protection of staff, public and patients in medical-related facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with the organisation's Procurement Team to standardise fire safety equipment and ensure compliance with legal and statutory obligations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fire safety principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will be responsible for advising on the suitability of equipment to reduce risks within the organisation, reporting on areas of fire and infrastructural risk, and receiving copies of accident reports relevant to their area of expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
* Advise on the suitability of equipment to reduce risks within the organisation
* Report on areas of fire and infrastructural risk
* Receive copies of accident reports and provide investigation reports
* Be a member of the organisation's Integrated Quality and Risk committee
* Monitor and report on the health and safety performance of external contractors
* Assist in the setting up and amendment of Emergency Plans
* Provide input into planning expenditure related to Fire Safety
* Conduct regular inspections of buildings and means of escape
* Review and draw up fire orders, including evacuation schemes
* Regularly inspect places and premises which present a special risk of fire
* Instruct staff on avoidance of fire hazards and operation of fire equipment
* Arrange regular fire drills
* Monitor water supply and report any deficiencies
* Ensure hydrants are clearly identified
* Advise on interpretation of Fire Protection Standards and Building Regulations
* Monitor means of escape and keep records of all inspections
Requirements:
* Hold a HETAC level 7 qualification in engineering, fire engineering, architecture, Health and Safety or Building Services/Building Surveying
* Have at least two years' experience in a comparable Fire and Safety role
* Demonstrate pro-active commitment to all communications
* Develop good working relationships with other members of the team
Salary and Benefits:
The salary for this position is €52,000 - €58,000 per annum, with annual increments thereafter. Standard working hours are 35 weekly, Monday to Friday (business hours).
