Job Description:
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to fill the role of Inspector/Scientific Officer III (Level 5) – General.
This position will involve working as part of a professional multi-disciplinary team, developing and implementing EPA policies in relation to the functions of the work area to which they are assigned.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of integrated environmental information systems, gather and assess environmental data, and participate in site activities and direct dealings with licensees and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
* Inspector Duties:
o Processing licence applications, including EIA and AA;
o Assessment of end-of-waste applications;
o Assessment of by-product notifications;
o Preparation of national end of waste and by-product decisions;
o Enforcing licence conditions and/or regulations in sectors such as Industry, Waste, Waste Water, Drinking Water and Radiological Protection;
o Monitoring, inspecting and auditing of EPA licensed and unlicensed facilities;
o Assessment of scientific and technical reports;
o Responding to and investigating environmental incidents and complaints;
* Scientific Officer Duties:
o Gathering, assessing and reporting on environmental quality;
o Analysis and presentation of environmental data;
o Liaising with and co-ordinating relevant activities with other organisations at local, national and international levels;
o Assisting in the development of integrated environmental information systems;

o Acquiring a clear and detailed understanding of relevant statutory provisions;
o Dealing with the general public and various external stakeholders;
o Contributing to the development and delivery of annual Office Work Programmes;
o Working effectively and efficiently as part of a team;
o Adhering to and supporting the development of safety protocols;
Requirements:
* An appropriate third level qualification (NFQ Level 8 or higher) in Science or Engineering;
* Demonstrate strong ICT skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
* Able to work and deliver as part of a team to meet objectives;
* Driving Licence - Applicants should hold a full valid Irish/EU licence for Class B vehicles;
* Work experience, preferably in a regulatory or environment role;
