Key Responsibilities
1. Act under the supervision of the emergency medicine consultants in the provision of an emergency medicine service and to support the consultants in their duties.
2. Be responsible for the safe and efficient assessment of emergency patients. Duties may include triage, making orders and following up on results.
3. Liaise effectively and in a timely manner in relation to patient referrals.
4. Ensure all patients are appropriately dealt with at the end of the shift, which may include discharged home, admitted, transferred elsewhere, or treatment arranged for another time.
5. Review patients on a regular basis in accordance with the plan of care and inform the consultant of any issues or problems.
6. Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner.
7. Respond to any adverse occurrences e.g., injuries, falls, sudden illnesses, etc., suffered by patients, visitors, or staff.
8. Comply with departmental clinical guidelines and protocols.
9. Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team within the department and hospital.
Requirements for the Above Post
1. Bachelor of Medicine with at least two years ED experience.
2. Registration with the Irish Medical Council.
3. Candidates are required to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an awareness and sensitivity towards patient needs, excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to multitask and work under pressure, and a willingness to work cooperatively as part of a team in an acute hospital setting over multiple locations.
