Senior SAOR Screening and Brief Intervention Practitioner
SAOR (Support, Ask and Assess, Offer Assistance, Refer) is a brief intervention model which uses a person-centred approach based on Motivational Interviewing.
The SAOR Practitioner will be based in the CH07 area and will deliver the SAOR screening and brief intervention, making onward referrals as necessary. The CH07 area covers Kildare, West Wicklow, Dublin West, Dublin South-City, and Dublin South-West.
The SAOR Practitioner will establish and coordinate local referral pathways and promote the service within sectors, in partnership with Coolmine, HSE Addiction Services, and Drug and Alcohol Task Forces in the CH07 area.
Referrals to the SAOR Screening and Brief Intervention can come from various sources including An Garda Síochána, GPs, community services, the Court Service, TUSLA, homeless services, child and family services, public health, and self-referral.
The SAOR Practitioner will provide KPI data to Coolmine monthly and to the HSE National Social Inclusion Office on a quarterly basis.
SAOR Training: Training will be provided as part of the role subject to the successful candidate meeting other role entry requirements.
Reports to: CTC Line Manager
Hours: 35 hours per week. Some out-of-hours work required.
Job Type: 12-month Fixed Term
Salary: €45,000
Purpose:
1. This post supports the expansion of the National SAOR Screening and Brief Intervention Programme.
2. Develop key working relationships with multiple stakeholders e.g., service users, government departments, senior managers, NGOs, and advocacy organizations.
3. Implement HSE national drug awareness campaigns locally.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide Screening and Brief Intervention for appropriate referrals.
2. Facilitate access to specialist treatment services for those with more complex needs.
3. Work closely with and accept referrals from multiple stakeholders.
4. Hold site clinics in various organizations and promote cooperation with other teams.
5. Provide reports on referral outcomes as appropriate.
6. Implement service plan objectives in the CH07 as outlined by HSE CH07 and Coolmine.
7. Ensure efficient management and administration of the service.
8. Ensure deadlines are met and service levels are maintained.
9. Maintain accurate and confidential records.
10. Keep stakeholders informed and communicate their views to management.
11. Seek feedback from service users and implement changes as agreed with the Line Manager.
12. Work with the Regional Service Manager to ensure adherence to health & safety regulations.
13. Participate in effective team meetings and support colleagues.
14. Adhere to Coolmine Therapeutic Community policies for consistent service delivery.
15. Oversee adherence to HSE’s Children First protocols.
16. Participate in service evaluation and ensure documentation is compliant with project standards.
17. Maintain professional boundaries appropriate to this post.
18. Engage in Coolmine’s performance management process.

Person Specification:
Education:
Essential: Third Level qualification in Addiction Studies, Addiction Counselling, or related field, Minimum of NFQ Level 7 Diploma
Desirable: Certified SAOR Practitioner
Experience:
Essential:
1. Three years’ experience working within the drug and alcohol field.
2. Experience working directly with service users.
3. Experience in care planning and case management.
4. Experience in providing statistics and reports.
5. Full clean driving license and willingness to drive as part of work.
Desirable:
1. Experience delivering SAOR Brief Interventions.
2. Experience in a leadership or management position.
