Post Summary The purpose of this post is to work as part of the Clinical Skills team in the Education Division of the School of Medicine.
The post is primarily based in the Trinity Centre for Health Sciences, St. Jamess Hospital, but the postholder will also be required to work across other School of Medicine sites as required (e.g.
TUH, Naas General Hospital, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute).
The successful applicant will be expected to take up post as soon as possible.
Main Responsibilities To work in partnership with the Clinical Skills Tutors to plan, design, develop and deliver clinical skills teaching to undergraduate medical students.
To contribute to the review and evaluation of the clinical skills teaching programme on an ongoing basis, make recommendations for improvement, and implement changes.
To promote clinical excellence in clinical skills teaching.
To teach undergraduate medical students as per course objectives in the classroom and skills laboratory and to provide teaching in clinical placements at ward level.
To continuously assess students' progress and provide regular informal feedback in the skills laboratory setting regarding their progress in skills acquisition and to review student logbooks.
To identify students who require more time to achieve competence in practical skills and offer remediation as required.
To formally examine those subjects taught on the programme in an end of year practical examination (OSCE).
To assist in supplemental teaching and examinations as indicated to include PRES OSCEs.
To liaise with Hospital staff in planning student visits to Hospital areas as required.
To assist in the development of an e-learning module in clinical skills.
To work with other team members in the development of policies and procedures related to programme delivery.
To attend planning meetings as required.
To participate in research associated with the programme to include supervising junior student research projects and submission of abstracts to national and local Medical Education Conferences.
To participate in the ongoing development of the clinical skills laboratories on Trinity Centre sites in terms of equipment, teaching programme etc.
There will be a close working relationship with the Education Division and the Director of the Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
Attend relevant professional meetings to stay informed of current practices and new developments.
Contribute to and support quality, audit and accreditation processes in the School.
To identify learning needs via learning needs analysis in conjunction with academic and clinician staff.
To communicate with students regarding course delivery dates, clinical skills and supervision as appropriate.
Provide a regular progress report to the Director of Undergraduate Teaching and Learning.
Perform other such duties as appropriate to the post and assigned from time to time by the Director of Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Please note that Police vetting will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for the post.
