Job Profile:The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer position is based within the Valeo R&D department and will form an integral part of a cross-functional team developing next-generation vision systems for the automotive market.
Responsibilities:
* Lead various projects from a mechanical design perspective and be part of a multidisciplinary team developing solutions for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems including cameras, ECUs and domain controllers.
* Represent R&D on project, customer and supplier interactions.
* Interface across a multidisciplinary environment in a clear and effective manner.
* Provide technical direction and coaching/mentoring of junior engineers on the team and in the department.
* Provide support and input to other tasks within the function as deemed necessary by management and senior management.
* Responsible for prioritizing work daily, weekly and at a project level for all mechanical contributors working on the project(s) assigned.
* Responsible for identifying and escalating resource needs across their projects not limited to, deficiencies, training needs, performance and inputting to (but not responsible for) appraisals as needed.
* Lead and give direction on project related technical activities including product validation/testing, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, dimensional and design optimisations.
* Manage project documentation in the PLM database.
* Support technical architecture and standards assignments.
Requirements:
* Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design or equivalent.
Professional Experience:
Mandatory:
* 5+ years experience in Mechanical Design.
* Experience in developing products for high volume manufacturing.
* Tooling and moulding experience - ability to identify and suggest part improvements.
* Experience with engineering tools such as DOE and SPC.
* Problem solving techniques and methodical approaches to the same.
* Experience in developing 2D drawings and 3D designing using 3D CAD.
* Self-starter, motivated individual who can work well alone or as part of a design team.
* High level of commitment, initiative and quality of workmanship required within the R&D environment.
* Good communicator and fluent in English, both in writing and speaking.
Desirable:
* Previous experience in a senior/lead engineer role or managing a professional team.
* Experience in an automotive environment.
* Experience with vision products, automotive electronics.
* Tolerance investigations and stack up analysis experience.
* Detailed Drawings and Drawing Control inc. GD+T.
* Experience in designing Thermal solutions both Active and Passive an advantage
