We are excited to announce a Legal Advisor role at the Charities Regulator. As part of the Legal Affairs team, you will report to the Director of Registration and Legal Affairs.
Role Responsibilities
* Provide legal advice and assistance to internal clients on various legal and regulatory issues across the organisation.
* Assist with inquiries and investigations under the Charities Act.
* Liaise with external legal advisors as required.
* Prepare briefing materials for Regulatory Committee and Board approval, and attend these meetings as necessary.
* Lead on litigation or statutory appeals involving the Charities Regulator, where appropriate.
* Keep up-to-date on relevant areas of law, including regulatory law, charity law, and administrative law.
* Report regularly on all legal work to the Director of Registration and Legal Affairs, the CEO, and senior management team.
* Contribute to drafting formal documentation, including guidance, reports, and website content.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify solutions to legal issues and contribute to strategic and operational goals.
Essential Requirements
* Candidates must be called to the Bar and enrolled as a Barrister in the State or have been admitted and enrolled as a Solicitor in the State, with not less than two years' practice experience.
* Candidates must also have 2 or more years of relevant post-qualification experience.
* Candidates must demonstrate excellent writing skills and attention to detail.
Key Skills and Experience
* Previous experience working in a regulatory body or advising regulators is desirable.
* Experience of advising on investigations or inquiries is highly valued.
* Candidates should possess sound judgement, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
* Candidates should have a proven ability to achieve challenging goals and manage multiple work streams.
* Candidates should have experience working as part of a team to deliver organisational goals and projects.
Desirable Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
* An understanding of charity law and the current context within which the Charities Regulator operates is highly desirable.
* Previous experience administering or advising on registration within a regulated sector is valuable.
* Candidates should have knowledge or experience of corporate governance, statutory powers relating to compliance and enforcement, and associated activities.
* Candidates should possess strong drafting skills.
