Job Title: Health & Safety Advisor
About the Role
Your new company is involved in the construction and maintenance of roads. They are now seeking to recruit a Health & Safety Advisor that will be based in Galway.
This role reports to the Group Health & Safety Manager, ensuring the company is compliant with all legal aspects of Health and Safety. The successful applicant will have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards and deal with subcontractors to ensure they meet and adhere to the company safety standards.
Responsibilities
* Develop, implement, and monitor the safety program to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and technical standards.
* Build relationships with all parties for the implementation of Safe T Cert/ ISO 45001 management systems.
* Liaise with contracting team to promote change management, legal compliance, behavioural-based safety, and a continual improvement approach.
* Undertake scheduled Site Audit Inspections and communicate the results of site inspections to site managers and the company's Health and Safety Manager.
* Deliver safety presentations to staff and/or customers, induction training, toolbox talks, and any other training as necessary.
* Monitor legislative compliance and communication of requirements and upcoming changes to ensure compliance.
* Prepare any reports as required, including accident investigation, audit reports, management reviews.
* Identify and address site safety issues and observations and report to the senior management team.
* Deliver safety-related training/induction to staff, contractors, and subcontractors.
* Support the accident and incident reporting structure in accordance with Company Policy.
Requirements
* Degree or equivalent qualification (Occupational Safety and Health, Construction, Engineering is desirable).
* Professionally qualified - minimum Level 7 / Diploma or Equivalent.
* Managing Safely in Construction is desirable.
* Experience in Auditing (and/or Safe T Cert) is essential.
* Working knowledge of SHWWA 2005 and associated Legislation.
* Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint.
* Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
* More than 3 years' experience of Safety & Health in quarrying, road maintenance, construction, or related industries.
* Experience of dealing with representatives of Regulators.
* Good communication, leadership, and teamwork skills, working at all levels in the organisation.
* Flexibility.
* Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies.
* Negotiating/Influencing Skills/Presentation Skills/Decision-Making Skills.
* Working ISO 45001 or Safe T Cert Management System.
* Strong MS Office capability.
* Report writing.
* Grad IOSH or working towards membership.
* Willing to travel around Connacht.
* Willing to be flexible in their schedule.
