Job Title: Senior Researcher: Manufacturing Process Engineering
The Munster Technological University in Tralee has established a world-class research centre, the Intelligent Mechatronics and Radio-frequency identification (RFID) Centre.
The principal theme of the centre is the synergy between mechatronics, sensors, RFID, Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics for industrial applications driven by new technology, innovation, and global demand.
The centre consists of two research strands: Intelligent Mechatronics and Industrial IoT & Data Analytics, both focused on delivering automation, identification, and manufacturing services.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Researcher to join our research team at the IMaR Centre.
The successful candidate will collaborate with our team to work on a cutting-edge research project for re-manufacturing process design and optimisation and machine monitoring in the manufacturing domain.
About the Role
The Researcher will have a track record of research and development in automated manufacturing systems and an appreciation of relevant state-of-the-art hardware and software.
The researcher will have extensive experience in industry or academia (or equivalent) in manufacturing process engineering and will work within a team of Software, Mechatronic, and Control engineers to develop a prototype remanufacturing system that includes several diverse processes along with some manual process tasks.
The candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing project tasks, playing a key role within the team in the delivery of critical tasks including industrial manufacturing process development/specification and programming.
The candidate's responsibilities will include:
* Development, scrutiny, and acceptance of functional requirements specifications in collaboration with the research team and industrial partners.
* Research, analysis, and mapping of manufacturing processes (hardware and software).
* Contribution to outline manufacturing line monitoring system design concepts and progress to detailed/optimised layout.
* Industrial traceability systems specification/procurement, data capture and analysis systems integration and testing.
Requirements
A minimum of a Level 8 degree in addition to experience in an industrial or academic setting in the area of industrial automation and manufacturing systems.
A strong theoretical and practical knowledge of manufacturing methods, including industrial manufacturing systems, manufacturing processes and workflow, and process mapping of production systems.
A broad knowledge of industrial manufacturing systems and techniques, including experience in manufacturing process mapping.
Familiarity with industrial programming (such as PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems), proficiency in mechanical and electrical systems, and an understanding of the Machinery Directive.
An ability to progress product ideas/technical concepts to prototype/final products and work as part of a team to achieve this.
Salary
An attractive salary on the MTU Senior Researcher scale will apply to this post, dependent on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
