Job Summary
The Data Privacy Specialist supports core privacy compliance operations at BHFS. This includes assisting the Data Protection Officer with implementing the BHFS Privacy Program to ensure compliance with relevant privacy and data protection laws. The role involves managing personal data protection issues, maintaining data inventories, performing privacy risk assessments, handling data subject rights requests, privacy disclosures, and advising on data protection queries.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deputize for the Data Protection Officer
2. Inform and advise the company and employees on obligations under global privacy laws
3. Manage privacy risk assessments, including impact assessments and third-party privacy risk evaluations
4. Handle requests from individuals regarding their personal data and exercise of their rights
5. Support management of requests from supervisory authorities
6. Maintain records of processing activities and purposes
7. Collaborate across teams to ensure privacy compliance
8. Monitor effectiveness of privacy controls and data privacy technologies
9. Assess legal and regulatory changes impacting privacy
10. Act as contact for auditors
11. Develop and maintain privacy risk frameworks in collaboration with teams
12. Coordinate with information security to manage privacy incidents
13. Create privacy training and awareness content
14. Review and advise on data sharing and processing agreements
15. Advise stakeholders on data protection queries
Knowledge and Skills
* Strong understanding of global data protection laws, including GDPR and privacy requirements in financial services in EEA, UK, and US
* 8+ years experience in privacy compliance or related functions, with managing privacy risk assessments
* Experience advising stakeholders on privacy issues
* Degree in law, data protection, business, security, or related field preferred; professional certifications like CIPP/E, CIPM preferred
* Understanding of AI, privacy-enhancing technologies, security concepts, and data protection obligations
* Knowledge of privacy contractual arrangements and data transfer agreements
* Problem-solving skills and ability to translate business needs into solutions
* Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Understanding of privacy by design and data ethics principles
* Ability to work independently and in teams
