The Role: The Production Unit Manager - Finishing & Packing is responsible for overseeing and leading the operations within the Finishing & Packing production unit.
This includes ensuring adherence to health and safety standards, achieving production targets, maintaining quality, and driving operational efficiency.
The role assumes ultimate accountability for the performance of Shift Leaders and their teams in meeting objectives and targets.
Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Compliance Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards across the site, leading by example in promoting safety excellence.
Conduct regular safety observations to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring a safe working environment.
Collaborate with Shift Leaders to address safety concerns promptly.
Leadership & Oversight Lead, mentor, and support Shift Leaders in managing Finishing & Packing teams to deliver consistent results.
Develop Shift Leaders in team management, performance monitoring, and problem-solving.
Plan and oversee FTE allocation to meet the operational demands of the production unit.
Ensure Shift Leaders achieve their objectives, including performance and developmental goals.
Team Management : Hourly/Shift : Drive performance and address immediate production needs.
Daily/Weekly : Forecast production volumes and staff requirements and monitor performance.
Monthly/Quarterly : Implement continuous improvement projects, analyse capacities, and adapt resources to meet forecasts.
Yearly : Oversee staff planning, annual leave schedules, and long-term capacity and investment plans.
Operational Excellence Monitor key production metrics, such as ironer speeds, fold quality, hourly outputs, rewash rates, and downtime, ensuring smooth operations.
Manage barrow quantities, moisture retention, and packing priority lists to meet operational requirements.
Oversee payroll tasks, annual leave planning, and accurate administration of schedules.
Conduct equipment audits, such as waxing and taping ironers, escalating maintenance issues as necessary.
Collaborate with Shift Leaders to adjust workflows and resource allocations, minimising delays and optimising buffers.
Strategic Input & Reporting Prepare and present performance reports, including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) analysis, to the Operations Manager and Senior Leadership.
Work collaboratively with other unit managers to align Finishing & Packing processes with overall production goals.
Continuous Improvement Use performance data and OEE metrics to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
Partner with Shift Leaders to implement solutions, driving continuous operational enhancements.
Knowledge & Skills Required Strong focus on health and safety compliance, promoting a culture of safety excellence.
In-depth understanding of industrial performance metrics and production KPIs.
Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience in recruitment, training, and performance management.
