What’s this role about?
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Embedded Systems Leader / Manager to Lead a team of hardware engineers in the design, development, and building of embedded hardware systems, including prototyping and production. Collaborate with a US-based Project Manager to align on project priorities and timelines. Drive technical innovation, hardware-software integration, and compliance with industry standards.

Team Leadership & Development:
This role involves hands-on technical work, architectural decision-making, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high quality embedded products.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to develop the team’s expertise in hardware and embedded systems.
Develop career growth plans for team members and ensure skills alignment with project needs.
Hardware Design & Development:
The role primarily focuses on Embedded Linux environments but also covers bare-metal/RTOS when necessary. It requires expertise in firmware development, Linux-based system integration, device drivers, and industrial automation using Codesys.
Drive the hardware architecture process, ensuring robust and scalable designs.
Collaborate on hardware-software integration, ensuring seamless communication between systems.
Guide the team through hardware validation and testing processes, including compliance with industry standards.
Technical Expertise:
Embedded Linux Application Development – Develop applications in C/C++, focusing on real-time performance and system optimization.
CodeSYS & Industrial Automation – Implement PLC logic, real-time control, and industrial fieldbus protocols using CodeSYS
Docker & Containerization – Deploy containerized applications using Docker, and lightweight runtimes for modular software deployment in embedded systems.
Oversee the design, development, and optimization of embedded software and firmware.
Work with real-time operating systems (RTOS), low-level drivers, and bare-metal programming.
Implement communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, RS485, CAN, Modbus, and TCP/IP.
Ensure efficient memory management and real-time constraints.
Collaborate with 3rd party engineers to ensure seamless integration between software and hardware.
Ensure security hardening for Linux-based embedded products.
Building & Prototyping:
Drive the creation of functional prototypes to validate hardware designs and system performance.
Oversee the assembly, testing, and debugging of hardware prototypes and production units.
Facilitate the transition from prototype to production, ensuring a smooth manufacturing process.
Technical Strategy:
This role acts as a bridge between engineers, product managers, other internal departments, third-party companies, and suppliers to drive innovation, efficiency, and high-quality deliverables.
Additionally, this role provides technical support to other teams, such as customer support, and field engineering, ensuring smooth deployment and maintenance of embedded systems.
Develop strategies for continuous improvement and innovation in embedded hardware systems.
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and certifications relevant to hardware systems.
Collaboration with Project Management:
Collaborate closely with the US-based Project Manager to align on project timelines, deliverables, and priorities.
Support the Project Manager in identifying risks, tracking progress, and communicating updates to stakeholders.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with software engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure aligned system development.
Facilitate hardware-software integration and support system-level testing.
What qualifications or skills do I need to be well-suited for this role?
Bachelor’s Degree (Minimum): Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related field.
Preferred: Master’s Degree or PhD in a relevant field for more complex projects or senior leadership roles.
8+ years of experience in embedded systems and hardware design, including hands-on design and development.
3+ years of experience in team leadership.
Demand Side Response (DSR) experience preferred.
Proficiency in embedded hardware development, including designing PCBs, schematics, and layouts.
Strong knowledge of microcontrollers, DSPs, FPGAs, SoCs, and related communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, etc.).
Experience in EMI/EMC design, signal integrity, power supply design, and system reliability.
Familiarity with hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and power analysers.
Experience with safety-critical design and adherence to industry standards (e.g., ISO, IEC).
Hands-on experience in creating prototypes, validating designs, and transitioning from prototype to production.
Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and production testing processes.
Expertise in hardware validation, stress testing, and performance tuning.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and communicate technical concepts effectively.
