The role of the food safety & quality manager on site is full time and permanent. The successful person will be responsible for the site’s food safety management systems (including HACCP), quality and legal compliance ensuring that processes and procedures are maintained, the site is audit ready at all times and our GFSI accreditation is upheld.
Role accountability:
· To coordinate and manage the food safety team holding the role of the team leader,
· To manage food safety culture on site ensuring accountability of all staff and management for food safety and quality standards
· To verify (and validate) documented systems to ensure legal compliance.
Role responsibilities & duties:
· Develop, update and manage the documented food safety management system [FSMS] making changes as required by legislation and GFSI standards,
· To manage the day to day prerequisite programme/GMP which are essential for production and process safety,
· Review the FSMS at least once annually, in conjunction with the external consultant and follow up on actions,
· Manage the internal audit programme and monthly inspections as part of GFSI requirements,
· Review and update risk assessments of all products, packaging and processes,
· Identify nonconformances, complete root cause analysis, implement corrective action and document,
· Manage customer complaints and address any issues promptly, ensuring good communication with the Sales Director and other interested parties,
· Manage customer requirements in relation to completing specifications, informing customers of change, dealing with customer enquiries and managing customer audits,
· Manage the approved supplier list, ensuring all supporting documentation is in place and reviewed annually. Maintain communication with current suppliers. Ensure all potential new suppliers have documentation completed and submitted prior to approval.
· Manage the site technical budget
· Identify training needs of staff and implement a training plan ensuring management and staff are appropriately trained and training records are maintained,
· Verify daily paperwork and maintain a filing system, where paperwork is readily available for inspection,
· Ensure the site’s product and environmental testing schedule is in place and active, linking with laboratories, reading laboratory reports and acting on any nonconformance,
· Be the lead point of contact for all inspections and audits
· Manage the meeting schedule on site for management and staff, ensuring everyone is informed on matters relevant to them.
· Liase with the company director to manage staff annual leave calendar, ensuring deputies are on site and adequate cover is maintained.
Educational and work requirements:
Education & experience:
· BSc Hons 7, as a minimum in foods science or related discipline
· 2-3 years’ experience in a management role where food safety & quality is a key focus,
· Experience in managing certification standards,
· Food Safety Training QQI L6 Designing FSMS or equivalent
· Auditing training – QQI L6 Conducting Food Standards Audits or equivalent
