We are seeking experienced technical experts in mainframe technologies to support our strategic objectives, including leveraging IBM Parallel Sysplex capabilities.
The team’s responsibilities include maintenance, performance optimization, capacity planning, scheduling, service continuity, and implementing global monitoring and automation solutions to ensure best-in-class availability.
GM IT has undergone a remarkable transformation, bringing nearly all IT functions in-house. As part of this effort, the Mainframe team has successfully re-platformed all applications into advanced data-sharing Sysplex environments, setting new benchmarks for efficiency and innovation in the automotive industry.
The Role
As a z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer, you will play a key role in deploying, managing, and supporting GM’s mainframe platforms. This includes collaborating with vendors, infrastructure teams, database administrators, and application teams to proactively install, monitor, upgrade, and maintain hardware and software within GM’s mainframe ecosystem.
Ideal Candidate:
* Experienced technologist in the mainframe space
* Ability to install/upgrade/maintain/support our mainframe product roadmap
* Apply experience regards optimizing future support models leveraging modern solutions
* Appreciation and knowledge of the wider IT infrastructure and the interfaces with the z/OS platform (APIs/CICD software development pipelines/Linux)
* The ability to execute tasks proficiently and with minimal supervision to add real business value.
Preferred Attributes:
* 3+ years’ relevant technical experience
* An Arts/Science degree or STEM qualification advantageous.
* Demonstrable experience with implementing technical solutions in accordance with an agreed technical design and GM standards.
* SRE mindset with ability identify opportunities for automation
* Experienced in troubleshooting, researching, and resolving multipart issues.
* Ability to understand technical details to execute product upgrades and maintenance requirements.
* Ability to support systems in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
* Observe mainframe standards and audit requirements.
* Work well as part of a team.
* Cross company collaboration with one team approach.
Technical Expectations:
* Working knowledge and skills with the standard z/OS tools. Db2 and/or IMS knowledge and experience advantageous.
* Knowledge of SMP/E (commands, terminology, problem determination). Ability to use SMP/E to apply maintenance, perform installs, and maintain SMP/E environments.
* Knowledge with REXX, CLIST, ASSEMBLER, PYTHON, or other relevant mainframe programming is advantageous .
* Ability to utilize system diagnostics to arrive at problem solutions (Messages and Codes, dumps, console messages, IBM Redbooks etc.)
Hybrid: This position will be located onsite a minimum of three days per week in our Limerick office and 2 days from home.
