Position Description
ESB International has a long-established history in providing transmission & distribution engineering consultancy services to support the delivery of large-scale utility infrastructural projects for our parent ESB and external clients globally since its inception. A key focus for ESB International has been building strong relationships with our clients and stakeholders, including but not limited to, EirGrid, SONI, NIE Networks, Coillte, SSE, LUCELEC and EWA.
ESB International would like to further develop and manage these client relationships, continue to promote ESB International’s brand and reputation and seek new business opportunities. In line with the business growth strategy and to manage existing engineering service agreements, ESB International have a vacancy for a Project Manager within the External Transmission & Distribution Engineering Consultancy Team.
The role of the appointed T&D Project Manager will be to manage a multidisciplined team(s) providing T&D engineering services on a programme of HV/EHV infrastructural projects. The role will maintain a close and productive relationship with ESB International Client(s). The T&D team provides a range of services including bid development, project management, engineering design support, technical grid feasibility, project planning, tendering, procurement, technical specifications, construction monitoring, and delivering the required commercial performance across the programme of projects. The team also provides support to the business development team in its pursuit of new business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the role will include:
1. Managing projects for key clients as assigned. Whilst it is intended that projects will be primarily related to substations; other types of projects may also be assigned over time.
2. Planning and forecasting resource requirements for projects in conjunction with the T&D Senior Project Manager, Technical Manager and Resource Manager.
3. Developing high quality technical and commercial proposals and negotiating client contracts.
4. Preparation of client Technical Specifications and Tender documentation, evaluation of tenders.
5. Accountability for the provision of a quality service to the clients projects you manage and ensuring the highest level of performance is maintained by your team in delivery of projects.
6. Manage a multi-disciplinary team provide engineering services on a diverse programme of transmission infrastructure projects
7. Maintain an understanding of the wider T&D electricity market in Ireland/UK and internationally including new technologies and prevailing issues that affect our clients.
8. Development of documented processes for work specific to your team and contributing to the overall development of procedures in ESB International
9. Responsible for ensuring compliance of Staff with all training and safety requirements when attending ESB and Client Sites.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
10. Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in the field of high voltage transmission & distribution engineering design.
11. A strong understanding of all elements of high voltage transmission substation design, primary plant, cables, SCADA, technical specifications, tender evaluation, construction monitoring during the execution phase of the projects.
12. Knowledge of commercial contracts
13. Proven record of meeting ambitious deadlines and managing multiple stakeholders in delivery of multi-disciplinary HV infrastructural projects.
Desirable
14. Experience in Extra High Voltage (EHV), 220 kV and 400 kV
15. Experience in FIDIC conditions of contract
16. Experience of completion of feasibility studies
17. Management of Procurement processes
18. Project Management and/or programme management of multi-contract or EPC infrastructure projects.
Qualifications
Essential
19. NFQ Level 8 Engineering Degree qualification or equivalent work experience is essential
Desirable
20. Project management diploma or similar qualification or recent relevant experience.
