Overview
This position is entry level for individuals with formal safety & health education and/or field operations experience. This position ensures the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives within the electric distribution group by demonstrating and applying knowledge of health and safety laws, rules, regulations, and general operational fundamentals. The incumbent will work closely on assignments with departmental management and/or more experienced health/safety professionals in order to develop basic knowledge of health and safety laws, applicable rules and regulations, as well as general operational applications within all distribution areas.
Responsibilities
Routine assignments may include some or all of the following:
1. Serves as an in-house expert and consultant on OSHA, KOSHA, PSC, DOT, PHMSA, and NESC regulatory matters throughout the company.
2. Assists with scheduling and coordination of technical safety training.
3. Prepares, conducts or coordinates, and documents departmental safety meetings and tailgate/toolbox meetings at predefined intervals.
4. Under general supervision, provides interpretation and guidance to operations management related to federal, state, and industry regulations.
5. Participates and often serves as departmental liaison for various focus groups and/or safety committee(s).
6. Works with field management to ensure that assigned work areas, processes, and procedures are in compliance with applicable federal, state, and company regulations.
7. Assists management and other safety professionals in investigations, follow-up, and mitigation plans in response to accidents and near misses.
8. Conducts regular field inspections/observations to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company safety policies.
9. Assists in the training and coaching of employees, supervisors and safety committee members on safety observation skills.
10. Exemplifies the company’s commitment to safety and health by exhibiting a highly professional demeanor at all times.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety or related educational discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prior professional safety and/or industry-specific line-of-business experience.
2. Basic computer proficiencies for programs management, development, and documentation.
3. Strong organization, planning, and written/oral communication skills.
4. Leadership potential.
5. Ability and drive to maintain continuing education hours and certifications through various professional organizations.
