Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to build your Board experience and make an important contribution to Society? Are you a professional individual looking for a chance to provide your valuable knowledge and expertise to make a real difference to the people we serve?
Chronic Pain Ireland (CPI) is the national charity providing information, education, and support to people living with chronic pain, their families, caregivers, and stakeholders. We advocate on their behalf and collaborate with policymakers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to improve the lives of those affected.
Our vision is an inclusive society where people living with chronic pain are believed, understood, and supported. As a transparent and compliant organisation, we adhere to the highest standards of governance, as evidenced by our recognition in the 2024 Good Governance Awards for our annual report. Chronic Pain Ireland's commitment to the highest standards of corporate governance was recognised by the Charities Institute Ireland with the awarding of triple lock status.
The Role:
Chronic Pain Ireland is now looking to expand its Board of Directors and in particular to deepen its succession planning by recruiting a new trustee with prior Chair experience. The Board roles are voluntary.
Responsibilities of the Board include the following:
1. All Board members are expected to have a working knowledge of the voluntary sector in Ireland and be familiar with corporate governance requirements and legislation, such as the Charities Act 2009, the Charities Governance Code and Reporting in 2021, and the GDPR 2018.
2. Board members are expected to participate in advocacy in the best interests of the organisation and protecting and promoting the reputation of Chronic Pain Ireland.
3. Members are required to become Directors of the Company.
4. You will regularly attend Board meetings – sharing your knowledge and skill. Board meetings are 7 times a year + AGM and are online.
5. You will commit to participating actively in a Committee (6 times a year) including initiating and accepting strategic assignments, and will build effective relationships with other Board Members to ensure the successful operation of the Board.
Ideally the successful candidate will be located in Ireland to facilitate engagement with management.
Additional Responsibilities:
We are seeking someone with prior Chair experience to add to the experience of our existing Board of Trustees and deepen our succession planning pool.
In addition to more general board responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to offer general guidance / mentoring to the Charity's Executive Director and newer Board members in the areas of governance, risk management and strategy formulation.
Application:
Candidates interested in joining our Board are encouraged to send their CV and a one-page cover letter detailing their experience and interest in this specific role.
We look forward to welcoming an experienced and passionate advocate to our Board to help shape the future of Chronic Pain Ireland and make a tangible impact on the lives of those we serve.
