Who We Are
St. Columcille’s Hospital (SCH) Loughlinstown is a model 2 hospital with 117 inpatient beds, including 3 Medical Observation Beds. The hospital has a National specialty in Obesity Management and Gender Service, alongside general medicine and care of the elderly services.
Description
The Senior Occupational Therapist will:
1. Be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of an evidence-based, service user-focused, quality-infused Occupational Therapy Service.
2. Apply Occupational Therapy (OT) knowledge, skills, and experience to support transgender/gender questioning people.
3. Possess skills and expertise in the area expected of a senior grade & work with the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist.
4. Develop and maintain high standards of clinical practice through clinical evaluation, completing audits, and evidence-based practice.
5. Serve as a leader in service improvement and development.
6. Implement clinical evidence-based practice and complete audits as directed by the Clinical Specialist in the occupational therapy service within the national gender service.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
2. Must be registered or eligible for registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
3. Have a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent) post-qualification clinical experience, including experience in transgender care.
4. Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence.
5. Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism.
6. Demonstrate achievement in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching, and/or research.
7. Have the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
8. Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
9. Maintain annual registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
10. Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
11. Be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health indicating a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
12. Be of good character.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
1. Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment/intervention programmes for service users presenting to the national gender service.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of Occupational Therapy evidence-based practice in transgender care.
3. Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings/case conferences.
4. Manage a clinical caseload and support and delegate appropriately to Occupational Therapy staff.
5. Ensure a high standard of Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment, and management is provided for service users.
Communication & Documentation
1. Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient and activity records.
2. Compile and prepare reports/statistics as requested.
3. Communicate oral and written information clearly and concisely.
Evidence-Based Practice
1. Maintain knowledge of and critically analyze current literature relevant to the clinical area.
2. Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions within the service.
Education
1. Contribute to a structured process for education of colleagues, undergraduates, and other disciplines in the specialist area.
Research
1. Understand principles of research and facilitate relevant research projects.
Health and Safety
1. Be aware of and implement HSE and department policies and procedures.
