The Generation Cables group within the HV Cables Department is responsible for the design and project management of high voltage underground cable and submarine cable projects for ESB Asset Development and other clients including cables for the development of offshore wind projects in the Irish and UK markets.
The Generation Cables section provide both conceptual and detailed engineering and route design services, design safety management, project programming, due diligence reporting, design reviews and commercial management.
The role of the EMP Generation Cables Senior Professional Engineer is to manage major underground and submarine cable projects and deliverables to a quality standard on time and to budget.
This includes preparation of detailed scope of works, costs, fees and programmes, materials management, stakeholder management, design review, cable rating studies, tender evaluations, site inspection/supervision procurement of materials and engagement in the training and development of staff.
The candidate would ideally be competent in the role PSDP.
We are looking for a Senior Cables Engineer to join us on our journey to a Brighter Future.
Key Responsibilities Work as part of a wider team to undertake in-depth design and delivery of high voltage underground cable circuits and material management for HV underground and submarine cables from 38 kV to 400 kV.
This will include preparation of specifications, detailed design, design reviews, cable rating reports, tender document preparation and evaluation, design and management of technical requirements for procurement of new materials, and site inspection/supervision.
Coordinating the various design disciplines where necessary ensuring the project programmes are developed and updated and that the design costs are managed and controlled.
Perform the role of PSDP focusing on project safety and coordination with all designers across various transmission technologies.
Ensure that standard designs are implemented to meet requirements for project quality and where improvements or innovations in design standards are identified that they are captured and communicated appropriately.
Provide specialist technical support, where required, to other ESB stakeholders and provide technical guidance to team members in all aspects of the design, construction, test and inspection in a training and mentoring role.

Essential A minimum of five years' experience in project delivery preferably on transmission energy projects.
Either a Level 8 qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline (electrical, electronic, mechanical, civil) or equivalent work experience is essential.
A strong understanding of all elements of HV cable system design, specification and tender preparation/evaluation, standards, construction, and commissioning.
A full understanding of the route design process associated with linear underground infrastructure projects including associated consenting process.
A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to ESB E&MP's safety, time, quality, and cost objectives.
Strong commercial, project management and design review capability.
The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Hold a full driving licence.
Desirable Chartered Engineer Status Experience in performing the role of PSDP (Project Supervisor, Design Process) Experience designing high voltage underground cable projects.
Location This role is based in either E&MP Dublin/ Cork offices but travel to project locations as required is a key requirement of the role.
