This role is a permanent full-time position. This is a hybrid role, with the flexibility to work between home and site/office. We are looking for an ambitious candidate who has a passion for their discipline and is seeking to develop a career within a dynamic and rewarding business.
As a Senior (Bat) Ecologist at RSK Ireland, you can expect to be involved with the delivery of elements of field surveys, assessment, tender and report writing, and project management on various Ireland-wide and local projects.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and oversee medium/large projects and tenders from inception to finalisation.
* Write reports, analyse data, coordinate bat and other ecological surveys and mitigation, and write bat survey reports.
* Manage and conduct bat surveys (PRAs of buildings, structures and trees, emergence/re-entry surveys, activity transects, static detectors) and bat mitigation (licence applications, supervision, monitoring).
* Manage project finance, resource allocation, manage staff and subconsultants, liaise with clients and authorities, ensure risk and quality assurance, timely delivery, effective communication, and seek and respond to client feedback.
* Have a good working knowledge and experience of ecology, legislation, and survey techniques, including protected species surveys and mitigation.
* Strong ability to scope bat survey requirements and design, coordinating and undertaking fieldwork for ecological impact assessments and protected species surveys.
* Produce accurate data analysis technical bat reports to a professional standard.
* Input into writing high-quality technical reports, e.g., Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Biodiversity Chapters, Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Management Plans.
* Conduct technical reviews of ecological reports prepared by colleagues.
* Assist with business development by preparing quotations and ensuring good client relationships.
* Work independently and with existing ecologists in the wider region to ensure quality projects are delivered on time to clients.
* Provide solid technical advice to clients.
* Complete fieldwork, including out-of-hours surveys, and travel and work away from home as required.
* Ensure good communication and collaboration within the ecology team, including liaising with senior ecologists and mentoring junior team members.
* Conduct project-specific desk-top research and keep self and other team members up-to-date with relevant industry guidelines and emerging science.
Person Specification:
* Lead on licensed bat mitigation, manage projects, and lead surveys with extensive bat survey and mitigation experience.
* 5+ years of specific relevant experience or proven previous experience in a similar role.
* A full UK/Irish driving licence with access to your own vehicle.
* Abide by CIEEM’s Code of Professional Conduct.
* Membership of CIEEM – level commensurate with experience.
* Desire and ability to work well within a team and mentor junior colleagues.
* A pro-active attitude to managing your own time.
* Bat survey experience in a range of survey types and written reports.
* Familiarity with sound analysis equipment and night vision aids, analysis programs, and interpretation of sound data and reporting.
* Experience of personal species-specific licences (i.e., bats, newts, and/or badger).
* Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce accurate technical reports (e.g., species-specific survey reports, EcIAs, Biodiversity Chapters, HRAs, protected species licenses, etc.) - Desirable.
* Experience of developing ecological/biodiversity enhancement plans - Desirable.
