Grace Healthcare is currently recruiting for a part-time Laundry Assistant position for Nephin Nursing Home in Dublin 7. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a progressive environment and further your career and training in the healthcare field. Shift times are from 08:00-16:00, and flexibility throughout the week is required. This position will be 3 shifts per week.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Refers special technical problems to Hygiene Manager for repair/renewal by outside contractors.
2. Ensures that the laundry moves strictly from dirty to clean areas.
3. Ensures that infectious linens/clothing are laundered separately from non-infectious items.
4. Ensures that patients' clothing is properly sorted and placed on the correct patient’s laundry shelf marked accordingly.
5. Updates shelves when no longer required by the patient or when new patients arrive at the Clinic.
6. Partakes in housekeeping duties where required - rubbish collection, hoovering, dusting, buffering, disinfecting, etc.
Sorting and Preparing Laundry:
1. Separate and sort soiled linens, clothing, and other items based on color, fabric type, and washing instructions.
2. Check for stains and damages and report any issues to the line manager.
Operating Laundry Equipment:
1. Operate washing machines, dryers, and other laundry equipment following standard operating procedures.
2. Use appropriate detergents, bleach, and fabric softeners as needed.
3. Ensure machines are properly maintained and report any malfunctions promptly.
Folding and Packaging:
1. Fold and organize clean laundry according to established standards.
2. Arrange clothes and keep ready for distribution to the units.
Inventory Management:
1. Maintain accurate records of linen and equipment inventory.
2. Monitor stock levels and notify the line manager when supplies need to be replenished.
Quality Control:
1. Inspect laundered items for quality, ensuring they meet established standards.
2. Report any issues with the quality of cleaning or pressing to the line manager.
Safety and Hygiene/IPC:
1. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while handling laundry chemicals and operating equipment in accordance with the training received.
2. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the laundry area.
Client Service:
1. Provide assistance to staff or residents with laundry-related inquiries.
2. Handle lost and found items in accordance with established procedures.
Required Skills/Ability to:
* Obtain and see to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to perform a task.
* Operate applicable specialized equipment.
* Use cleaning agents, products, and equipment.
* Use professional laundry equipment.
* Perform a variety of general maintenance activities.
* Manoeuvre mechanized equipment.
* Sort, load, wash, dry, sanitize, iron, and fold cloths and/or linens.
This is a part-time position, and flexibility throughout the week is required.
