The Engineering Manager has responsibility for the management of the maintenance and manufacturing engineering teams. They will have responsibility for delivering on key performance metrics, introduction of new technologies and improvement to existing processes to meet the company strategic objectives. They will support Product Development projects during the development phases and introduction to commercial. They will provide support to the sales production, quality and technical functions.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Effectively and efficiently execute / coordinate maintenance and critical spares requirements onsite.
2. Understand current processes and technology, taking a hands-on approach to understanding how these can be improved to deliver production, technical, financial and quality requirements across all production departments.
3. Project manage the introduction of new technology to meet business objectives.
4. Champion structured approach to problem solving using lean tools and 6 sigma principals within the organisation facilitating investigation, trouble shooting and reporting on process/technology failures.
5. Build motivated, competent and results focused engineering and maintenance teams, developing a culture of continuous improvement within the department, fostering cross-functional relationships.
6. Work with equipment vendors to mutually understand their and our technical process challenges, to improve capability and eliminate cost.
7. Achieve key project deliverables on time and within budget.
8. Challenge the ‘status quo’ from an engineering and maintenance perspective.
9. Play an active part in the quality management review process.
10. Manage Health and Safety across the site delivering on regulatory requirements and key metrics. Ensure all plant personnel are fully aware of safety requirements and are trained.
11. Ensure that manufacturing equipment and processes are validated, maintained, calibrated and documented in accordance with the Nordson quality system.
12. Develop key performance metrics for the department.
Skills and Qualifications
1. The Engineering Manager should have a minimum of 5 years People Management, preferably with six sigma process experience of fostering a culture of pro-activity and problem resolution.
2. Energetic and driven self-starter, with good communication and influencing skills and the ability to effectively and simultaneously manage a wide range of diverse activities.
3. Must be commercial, understanding the revenue generating aspects of small business and the cost implications of providing engineering solutions, in a timely manner.
4. Have an ability to work hands-on, with a solid engineering background, engaging with direct reports, cross-functional groups, and equipment vendors to resolve technical issues.
5. Practical level-headed individual, who is prepared to actively participate as a member of the management team.
6. Project manager, setting realistic objectives and delivering.
7. A primary degree in engineering or a trade qualification.
8. Should have a minimum of 5-8 years medical device manufacturing/Product Development related experience including at least 3 years in an engineering department.
