About Ability West
Ability West provides a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism across Galway City and County. Services provided are day, residential, short breaks, community supports, rehabilitative training and multi-disciplinary supports. Role: Instructor
Contract Available: Specific Purpose Contract - 30hrs a week

Role Responsibilities
1. Support the Senior Instructor to plan, implement and evaluate programmes in a variety of areas.
2. Instruct on courses as required, including specific skills, social development, personal care, and community integration.
3. Ensure that service users' Person Centered Plans are in line with policy.
4. Instruct service users in all programmes offered at Adult Day Centres.
5. Maintain a full current driving license with access to your own vehicle.
6. Work independently and as part of a team.
7. Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
8. Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
9. Have a motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic personality.
10. Advocate on behalf of service users.
Key Duties
1. Provide instruction in various areas including arts, crafts, social skills, woodwork, cookery, horticulture, and independent living skills based on service users' preferences and abilities.
2. Work as part of a flexible team where duties may interrelate and overlap.
3. Establish and maintain respectful and equitable relationships with service users to promote their independence.
4. Work positively and constructively with service users who present with challenging behaviors.
5. Utilize person-first language in verbal and written communication.
6. Assist in monitoring and discussing service users' progress with professional staff and maintain necessary records and reports as required by the Manager.
7. Participate in regular staff and planning meetings, case conferences, and family meetings as requested by the Manager.
8. Supervise service users during break times and assist in leisure and extracurricular activities as needed.
9. Support service users in training, work experience, and employment opportunities as required.
10. Maintain high safety standards and ensure compliance with all safety regulations as outlined in Ability West's Safety Statement.
11. Take responsibility for service delivery to several service users and act as part of the key-worker system in consultation with the Adult Day Services Manager and Senior Instructors.
12. Administer, supervise, and record prescribed medication.
13. Engage in relevant community activities suitable for service user development.
14. Participate in IT initiatives including Core HR, Personal Development Planning (PDP), and Performance Management System as per Ability West policy.
15. Undertake relevant training courses, both in-house and external, to develop necessary skills to meet service user and organizational needs.
16. Work in any of Ability West's centres as assigned by management.
