We seek a detail-oriented Cloud Engineer with expertise in optimizing cloud-native infrastructure to join our talented team at the Fraud & Risk Management Research & Development Centre of Excellence in Limerick.
Position Overview:
As the Cloud Engineer, you will focus on designing, deploying, and maintaining secure, scalable cloud infrastructure while collaborating with architects, Dev Ops engineers, and security teams.
Your work will directly support our platform that leverages the power of artificial intelligence to address complex challenges for fraud detection, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance in the financial industry.
This role emphasizes cloud infrastructure optimization, cost efficiency, and alignment with architectural and security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, deploy, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure (e.g., VPCs, subnets, storage tiers) using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
* Optimize cloud resources for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency (e.g., auto-scaling, rightsizing, Reserved Instances).
* Harden cloud security configurations, including IAM roles, network security groups, WAF rules, and encryption standards.
* Implement and maintain cloud-native services (e.g., AWS API Gateway, AWS ECS/Fargate, AWS EKS, etc).
* Configure observability tools (e.g., Cloud Watch, Grafana, ELK Stack, Prometheus) to monitor infrastructure health and performance.
* Collaborate with architects, Dev Ops, stakeholders and engineers to translate high-level designs into scalable, secure cloud implementations.
* Enforce tagging, resource limits, and other cloud governance standards.
* Manage relational and No SQL databases (e.g., RDS, Dynamo DB) with a focus on performance tuning and disaster recovery.
* Research new technologies, including hands-on technical evaluation and PoCs.
* Participate in conversations and workshops with stakeholders to understand requirements and identify solutions and opportunities.
* Document infrastructure designs, operational procedures, and cost optimization strategies.
Requirements:
* 3+ years of hands-on experience with major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
* Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like HCL (Terraform/Open Tofu), or Cloud Formation.
* Strong understanding of cloud networking (e.g., VPCs, VPNs, DNS, load balancers) and security best practices.
* Experience with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, AWS EKS, GKE) and Serverless architectures (e.g. Lambda, Step Functions).
* Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Cloud Watch, Prometheus) and performance tuning (e.g., DB indexing, caching).
* Knowledge of cost optimization strategies (e.g., Fin Ops, storage lifecycle policies).
* Experience with Linux system administration and scripting languages (Python, Bash).
* Understanding of relational databases (Postgre SQL, My SQL) and No SQL databases (Dynamo DB, Mongo DB).
* Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline or relevant experience.
* Experience working in the financial services, financial technology and risk management industry is a bonus.
* Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable discussing technical information.
