Position Description
ESB is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join our large Payroll team, providing best in class payroll services for all ESB ROI and UK staff and pensioners (c. 15,000).
This is an excellent opportunity to manage a team dedicated to delivering best practice payroll processing and ensuring accuracy, efficiency, digitalisation, delivering business requirements and continued staff development.
Working closely with our HR, Finance and Tax teams, the successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with multiple team members across disciplines and possess a strong financial, tax and analytical background.
Key Responsibilities
1. Processing salary payments for all ESB ROI and UK staff and pensioners, and accountability for ensuring the underlying figures reconcile.
2. Reconciliation and payment of over €200 million to Revenue annually in respect of all ROI ESB Staff, Pensioners and £3.9 million to HMRC annually.
3. Issuing of Payroll Submissions following each payroll run.
4. Filing and tracking tax returns according to legislative timelines and stipulations.
5. Processing of Financial Postings in respect of all ESB, Pensions and UK Staff.
6. Responsibility for the reconciliation and pay-over of monies in respect of the ESB DB Pension Scheme, the ESB DC Pension Scheme and the UK DC Pension Scheme.
7. Responsibility for the reconciliation of various voluntary deductions and pay over to various third parties.
8. Managing both external and internal audits.
9. Managing the annual scheduling of payroll calendars.
10. Responsibility for ensuring key payroll controls operate effectively, providing quarterly sign off to People Operations Manager and ensuring compliance with audit and control requirements including GDPR.
11. Maintaining both technical and functional knowledge and expertise in relation to the payroll landscape and technical interfaces inclusive of Danske Bank, DB Pension scheme, DC Pension scheme and payslip interface.
12. Responsibility and ownership of payroll master data such as wage types and expense types.
13. Managing and developing a team of 3 staff.
14. Monitoring both tax and employment legislation.
Experience and Qualifications
1. Significant Payroll experience with experience managing a team.
2. Diploma in Payroll Management, Irish Payroll Association (IPASS).
3. Strong knowledge of ROI and UK employment tax. A Tax technician qualification from the Irish Tax Institute or equivalent, whilst not essential is desirable.
4. SAP S/4 Payroll experience or equivalent.
5. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple team members across disciplines.
6. Ability to work to tight deadlines and under time pressure.
7. Continually look for improvement opportunities and better ways of working.
8. Adapt to changing business environments and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Location
This position will be based in F27, Dublin in line with ESB's smart working arrangements.

The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.
