Job title: Area Manager

Job Purpose: To manage and oversee the operations of multiple off-license stores within a designated area, ensuring that all stores achieve their sales targets, maintain high operational standards, and deliver excellent customer service. The Area Manager will implement and manage efficient, customer-centric operating models, ensuring consistency in processes, technology, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sales: Ensure all stores in the area meet or exceed annual agreed budget levels for sales. Monitor and analyze sales performance, providing support and guidance to store managers to achieve sales targets.
2. Health & Safety (H&S): Ensure all stores comply with health and safety regulations. Conduct regular health and safety audits and provide corrective action plans.
3. Controls: Ensure compliance levels are met across all stores through frequent, rigorous, and objective evaluations of store performance across all compliance criteria. Implement and monitor store operational performance, focusing on areas such as:
o Staffing & Rostering
o Stock Management
o Store Standards
o Cash Management
o Compliance & Regulation
o Procedural Adherence
4. Collaborate with support office functions (Buying, Marketing, Finance, HR, Facilities, Logistics IT) to support store operations.
5. Store Look & Feel: Maintain high standards of store presentation, merchandising, and other agreed standards for the O’Brien's brand. Ensure consistent execution of agreed product, promotional, and marketing activities across the store network.
6. Business Development: Assist in setting annual business development plans for each store and ensure their implementation. Identify and implement opportunities for business growth within the area.
7. Customer Service: Ensure stores deliver consistent world-class service to customers, meeting agreed customer service metrics. Address customer service issues promptly and effectively.
8. People Management: Lead, motivate, and manage store managers to consistently deliver on store targets and objectives. Assist in recruiting, retaining, developing, and engaging store managers capable of achieving agreed objectives. Ensure store teams are adequately staffed, trained, and knowledgeable to achieve business objectives. Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and high levels of employee engagement.
9. Change Management: Ensure effective implementation of changes across stores, embedding required behaviors and processes. Monitor and report on the benefits realized from implemented changes.
10. Additional Responsibilities: Perform any other duties or projects deemed suitable for the position.
Work Schedule: Work hours spread over five days from Monday to Sunday, with flexibility required to meet business needs.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Strong operational experience in a multi-site retail network with proven experience in maximizing operational performance.
* Experience managing and influencing teams in a multi-site retail environment.
* Track record of delivering operational efficiencies and customer experience improvements.
* Excellent leadership and coaching skills with a track record in performance management.
* Commercially astute, particularly in efficiency/cost management.
* Ability to understand, calculate, and manage operational budgets, staffing, and targets.
* Full clean driving license.
