Job Title: Assistant Accountant
About the Role
VANRATH is delighted to be working with a well known Public Sector Organisation to offer a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to become part of a growing finance team.
This role is initially on an interim basis covering a period of maternity.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their accounting knowledge, skills, experience and career opportunities within a diverse business environment with a turnover in excess of £1.2bn per annum.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide an efficient, effective, and professional management accounting service to a Directorate within the business.
* Deliver all aspects of day-to-day management accounting and reporting requirements.
* Develop devolved budgetary control, supporting budget holders with reports, investigation of variances and advice on corrective actions.
* Plan, manage and organise the day-to-day operation of the relevant Finance section to ensure transactions and requests for information are processed within organisational targets, timescales and procedures.
* Maintain financial systems and records to fulfil legislation, accounting standards, policy and financial control obligations.
* Liaise with senior staff on finance related matters across divisions.
About You
Candidates must hold one of the following qualifications: AAT or IATI final examinations, CCAB body foundation papers, or a relevant Bachelor's degree with accounting as the major component.
Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of 3 years' experience in an accounting environment in at least 3 of the following areas:
* Budget setting, forecasting, monitoring and reporting of expenditure.
* Preparation of statutory accounts.
* Identification and implementation of business process improvements within a finance environment.
* Managing a team in a busy finance environment.
* Use of integrated financial management systems, linked reporting tools and advanced spreadsheets skills.
* Writing reports using SAP Business Objects/Crystal report writing tool.
* Finance systems implementation projects.
