The Infrastructure Operations (Data Center) team is the backbone of AWS, supporting the rapidly growing AWS business and customers 24/7. We are committed to maintaining the physical infrastructure of AWS, ensuring the standards for operational performance in the areas of safety, security, availability, productivity, capacity, efficiency, and cost.
We are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) Engineer with experience in critical facilities management, a result-driven individual with strong technical (electrical/mechanical) understanding and the drive and vision to take our data center engineering operations to the next level. The role will report to the DCEO Manager and be responsible for sustaining availability, cost management, risk assessment and mitigation, review corrective and preventative maintenance of critical infrastructure and metric reporting.
Key job responsibilities
1. Participate in a 24/7 rotating shift pattern
2. Assist for the on-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
3. Maintain performance benchmarks, conduct analyses & prepare reports on all aspects of the critical facility infrastructure operations & maintenance.
4. Generate Change Management requests & Incident Management tickets for events that DCEO are responsible to manage.
5. Work with DC managers (IT) and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, sustainability and efficiency.
6. Contribute to documentation relevant to business & facility operations.
7. Responsible for the installation of the racks and the provision of power/cooling within its constraints.
8. Be involved with the management of both routine maintenance and emergency services on a variety of critical systems such as: switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, building monitoring systems, etc.
9. Assist in the design, implementation, commissioning and build out of new facilities.
10. Assist with the management of the Facility assets and the provision of infrastructure & inventory asset management.
11. Attend and participate in regular Construction & Operational Meetings as required.
12. Assist with Work Order compliance to ensure all contractual SLA’s are achieved.
13. Interface with Infra Ops teams for day to day operational requirements.
14. Assist in the resolution of any infrastructure engineering or services issue.
15. Delivery of exceptional customer service and satisfaction.
A day in the life
No two days are the same in AWS data centres but, typically, your day will include:
1. Attending operational meetings to foster awareness of important activities across the Melbourne data centre region
2. Mentoring and development of less experienced engineering operations technicians
3. Planning and scheduling of maintenance activities for critical infrastructure
4. Collaborating on solving complex engineering problems impacting critical infrastructure
5. Collaboration with other AWS data centre regions globally

Minimum Requirements
1. Degree or technical certification (Military or Trade school)
2. Mechanical/HVAC/Electrical engineering or experience at technician level in a critical environment
3. Experience in a data centre or critical environment
4. Experience with the development of MOPs & SWMS for planned works
5. Familiar with the concepts and interaction of Service Management systems (Problem & Change)
6. Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications
