Job Description: Description Scopely is looking for a Principal DevOps Engineer to join our Star Trek Fleet Command team within our Midcore division in Dublin on a hybrid/remote basis.
At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues or through our deep connections with our communities of players.
We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.
Star Trek Fleet Command is a standout success in the gaming industry.
Launched in 2018, our in-house developed 4X Strategy MMO has continually evolved, earning its place as one of the top-grossing games on the market.
What You Will Do Provide site reliability engineering for cloud infrastructure powering the game.
Liaise with backend and core technology engineers and ensure their needs are fulfilled whilst following good practices in terms of IaC coding and infrastructure usage.
Uphold the security, observability, and compliance standards necessary to operate the game with the highest availability.
Manage and optimise relationships with external parties such as AWS, RedisLabs and Datadog, to ensure that our platform is well architected, performant, and cost efficient.
Create new architectures and drive the introduction of new technologies so the platform keeps evolving in a continuous improvement cycle.
Ensure the execution of the product and technology roadmap to meet stakeholder expectations and maintain technical quality of experiences implemented by the team.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including game development, QA, operations and the management team to drive effective communication, collaboration and stakeholder management.
Create and maintain a focus on best practices, efficiency, and growth for your team members by overseeing code reviews, development processes, and training opportunities.
What We're Looking For Extensive experience in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), with a strong focus on automation, reliability, and security.
Deep hands-on experience with AWS, including services like ECS, RDS, IAM, VPC, S3, and networking fundamentals.
Solid understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), particularly using Terraform.
Experience with container orchestration, ideally using ECS or Kubernetes.
Familiarity with monitoring, observability, and alerting tools, such as Datadog or similar platforms.
Competence in scripting/automation, preferably with Python and/or Bash.
Comfortable with CI/CD pipelines and version control, using tools like GitLab.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Bonus Points: Experience in the gaming industry, especially with multiplayer or distributed systems.
Redis (Redis Cloud) expertise for caching and performance.
Experience with high-scale, multi-region architectures.
Exposure to observability stacks like OpenSearch/ELK, OpenTelemetry.
Knowledge of Agile practices or project management frameworks.
