You will be responsible for the preparation, administration, and interpretation of the results to assist in diagnosing and monitoring retinal conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma.Biometry: Perform Biometry measurements, including axial length measurements and keratometry, essential for calculating intraocular lens power prior to cataract surgery. You will ensure the accuracy of the data to assist ophthalmologists in making informed decisions about surgical planning.Visual Fields Testing: Administer and interpret visual fields tests using advanced technology to assess the patient's peripheral vision and detect early signs of glaucoma or neurological conditions. You will provide clear instructions to patients and support them through the procedure, ensuring they understand the process.Retinal Photography: Conduct retinal photography to capture detailed images of the retina, providing essential documentation to track changes in a patient's eye health over time.Clinical Judgment and Care Planning: Apply critical thinking in all areas of care, from patient assessment to post-procedural management. You will utilize the system for both clinical and administrative tasks to support patient care continuity and efficient department functioning.Person Specification:Qualifications: Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).Experience: At least one year’s experience in ophthalmology nursing or a related specialty, with proficiency in performing OCT scans, Biometry, visual fields tests, and retinal photography highly desirable.Familiarity with ophthalmic equipment and technology used for diagnostic tests and patient monitoring.Competence in performing ophthalmic diagnostic procedures such as OCT scans, Biometry, visual fields testing, and retinal photography.Strong communication skills, with the ability to educate and support patients through diagnostic and procedural experiences.Familiarity with hospital IT systems and accurate documentation of clinical data.Personal Attributes: Compassionate, patient-centred approach to care.
