Virgin Media News is seeking a researcher for our flagship current affairs programme, The Tonight Show.
The researcher will be responsible for booking guests, generating ideas for content, developing relationships with presenters, guests, agencies and political parties, identifying new talent and understanding the dynamics of panel discussions.
The researcher will have good working knowledge of digital news platforms and digital production. This role will involve varied shifts outside of normal office hours.
Specific Duties & Tasks:
1. Booking contributors for panel discussions & one-on-one interviews
2. Interviewing and compiling notes prior to guests' live appearances
3. Working with the production team in the preparation and management of high-quality journalistic programming
4. A commanding knowledge of both traditional and new television production
5. Liase and greet guests ahead in studio
6. Sourcing and posting digital content such as video clips and audio from TV programmes to online and podcast platforms
7. Assist the producers with programme administration
8. Other newsroom duties as assigned
Skills & Expertise:
1. Experience working in current affairs in television/radio
2. Knowledge of the Irish political landscape will also be required together with a command of national and international social, cultural, business and economic affairs
3. Good communication and interpersonal skills
4. Sound editorial judgement
5. Ability to work under pressure as part of a busy team and meet deadlines
6. Ability to work flexible hours
7. Exceptional organisational skills
8. Knowledge of digital news production
