An established company specialising in air handling equipment for critical environments is seeking a full-time Refrigeration Engineer to join its team in Portlaoise. The role involves designing, building, and testing cutting-edge cooling systems for precision applications such as modular fibre landing stations, edge data centres, and hospital theatres.
Roles and Responsibilities:
* Oversee refrigeration component selection, piping design, prototype assembly, and testing for cooling products in telecoms and edge computing applications.
* Select and size components according to project specifications, including fixed/variable capacity valves, VFD compressors, and associated line gear to ensure proper operation (temperature/pressure/oil return).
* Conduct capacity tests on prototypes using temporary rigs to validate cooling performance.
* Assist in preparing technical documentation, such as datasheets, information leaflets, and instruction manuals.
* Design and document piping and wiring requirements to ensure products are production-ready.
* Perform end-of-line testing on production equipment, ensuring adherence to quality control procedures. Collaborate with software teams and equipment vendors for optimal operation.
* Conduct on-site commissioning of designed products, including creating method statements and risk assessments.
* Apply lean principles to enhance efficiency within the engineering department.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Qualification in HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, manufacturing, or a related field.
* Experience in designing refrigeration or HVAC systems, including component sizing and selection.
* Strong focus on precision in design and bill of materials (BOM) preparation.
