Role Purpose:
The Director of Communications will lead in the development and implementation of Concern Worldwide’s global communications strategy. This pivotal role demands a visionary and innovative leader who can elevate the organisation’s communications approach to maximize its global impact.The Director of Communications will oversee all aspects of branding, media relations, digital communications, internal communications and content production. They will collaborate closely with programme and support teams across multiple countries to align Concern’s communications initiatives with organisational goals.As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director will play a key role in directing the organisation’s voice and public presence, driving strategies that inspire action and engagement across diverse audiences.
Responsibilities:
Communications
* Based on a strategic, data led approach, develop/update the global communications strategy in relation to external, internal, and crisis communications and ensure the delivery of appropriate organisational KPIs.
* Ensure that the capacity is in place across the organisation to deliver on this.
* Act as a key adviser to the CEO on communications, including on the internal communications strategy.
* Develop and lead on the delivery of crisis management communications plans, including with country programmes.
* Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with global stakeholders, including media outlets, government bodies, and other NGOs, to amplify Concern's voice and influence on key humanitarian issues.
* With support from the Director of Development and Fundraising and the Director of Strategy, Advocacy and Learning, lead on the development and delivery of a Public Engagement and an Audience strategy for Ireland.
* Support country programme teams in their adherence to donor visibility requirements.
Brand
* Develop the brand strategy and ensure the consistent oversight and evolution of Concern’s global brand, maintaining alignment with organisational values and strategic goals.
* Develop and ensure the implementation of the global brand strategy and guidelines, ensuring consistency across regions and platforms while allowing for local adaptations.
* Collaborate with teams to align brand initiatives with the organisation’s advocacy, global citizenship, development and fundraising, and other communications objectives.
* Work with Development and Fundraising team in Dublin to grow Concern’s brand awareness in Ireland, and in other territories as required by our fundraising strategies.
* Evaluate brand performance and explore innovative branding trends to maintain relevance, impact and reach.
Digital and social media management
* Lead the organisation’s digital marketing campaigns in relation to donor visibility, Global Citizenship and Communications. Facilitate the delivery of paid digital marketing campaigns developed by the Fundraising team. Ensure the effective use of social media, websites, and other online platforms to maximise impact of these campaigns.
* Lead the organisation’s digital communications work, ensuring the effective use of social media, websites, and other online platforms to maximise impact.
* Oversee the ongoing technical development and evolution of Concern’s public-facing digital platforms.
* Monitor digital trends and leverage them to enhance outreach and engagement.
* Oversee the production of compelling multimedia content to tell the organisation’s story.
* Oversee the development and management of adequate digital data analytics systems and dashboards to facilitate cross-organisational digital activities.
* Develop and oversee a global content strategy that aligns with the organisation’s mission and delivers on the goals of key stakeholders, ensuring impactful and authentic storytelling.
* Oversee the creation of compelling, multi-format content, including written, visual, and multimedia assets, for use across digital platforms, media outlets, and donor engagement events and reports.
* Ensure that all content reflects the voices and experiences of the communities with whom we work, maintaining ethical storytelling standards and fostering authenticity.
* Oversee the establishment and management of a global content calendar, coordinating contributions from country teams to ensure timely delivery of strategic content aligned with key campaigns and events.
Monitoring and evaluation
* Ensure a strategic, data led approach to the development of all policies and strategies.
* Establish and lead processes to evaluate the impact of the communication, branding, marketing and public engagement strategies and actions, using data-driven approaches to improve effectiveness and achieve organisational goals.
Senior Management Team (SMT)
* Engage effectively as a member of the SMT by contributing to the development of the organisation’s overall strategic direction and decision-making processes.
* Provide strategic direction to a skilled Dublin-based communications team and ensure the greatest coherence possible with the communications teams in Concern UK, US and South Korea to ensure coherent and effective messaging.
* Uphold and promote Concern's values of equality, diversity, inclusion, accountability, and safeguarding in all communications, branding and digital marketing activities, and role model a positive safeguarding ethos.
Role Holder Requirements:
* Considerable experience of working in the development or humanitarian sector.
* Experience of developing and delivering on communications strategies, audience development and crisis communications.
* Exceptional communication and influencing skills.
* Proven experience in strategic leadership and managing complex organisational communications.
* Strong analytical, creative problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
* Demonstrated ability to build and lead effective teams.
* Substantial multimedia experience and demonstrable skills in leading digital innovation.
* Strong experience of brand strategy development and growth, including through a proven track record of creative and engaging storytelling.
* Deep understanding of current trends in international communications and media.
* Expertise in crisis management and strategic planning for emergency situations.
* Knowledge of working with diverse stakeholders, including media, government, and political contacts at a senior level.
* Ability to monitor, evaluate, and improve communication strategies using analytics and measurable outcomes.
