St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968, the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
The Foundation provides services to children and adults through day services, residential, respite care, and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region. We have day and residential services in various locations in the North Cork and South Limerick area.
Minimum Requirements:
A full clean driving licence (W, B, BE or C1) and indemnification of the Foundation on your car insurance policy.
Job Goal:
1. To organise, co-ordinate and implement an Equestrian programme for adults/children with intellectual disabilities which will meet their needs, interests, and abilities and which offers them choice.
2. When on duty, to actively manage the equestrian centre and farmlands.
Main Duties:
1. Attend to daily stable management duties, including mucking out, feeding, watering, etc.
2. Be responsible for reoccurring tasks relating to the order of feed and bedding, routine farrier visits, tack maintenance, manure disposal, etc.
3. Organise, coordinate, and implement equine activities within the Foundation in line with Foundation Policies.
4. Encourage and facilitate the participation of as many service users as possible in the Equestrian Programme.
5. Timetable programmes in an organised manner in consultation with Service Users/Nurses/Supervisors/Teachers and in conjunction with the Manager/Assistant Manager of Adult Services.
6. Assist with the preparation of Service Users for any equine activities or games.
7. Make recommendations on all purchases of equipment for the Equestrian Centre and farm.
8. Maintain all equipment used during equestrian sessions, the equestrian yard, farmlands, and farm equipment.
9. Clean, disinfect, and maintain equine accommodation, yards, exercise areas, paddocks, feed room, tack room, laundry, and storage facilities.
10. Follow training programs as appropriate to individual horses.
11. Carry out health checks on equines, including visual observation and physical inspection of body conditions for signs of ill health or abnormalities.
12. Administer wormers and other treatments and medications as directed.
13. Care for the horses in compliance with animal welfare legislation.
14. Maintain the equestrian centre in a clean and orderly manner.
15. Drive the Foundation's transport as required.
General Duties:
