Design Engineer - County Louth
The Design Engineer plays a key role in the R&D team, responsible for delivering new products to the business and improving existing ones. This involves working within established processes and standards, including New Product Introduction (NPI) and Value Improvement (VI).
Main Responsibilities:
* Undertake mechanical design activities throughout the product lifecycle.
* Maintain a strong theoretical understanding of design technology and apply practical engineering knowledge in planning, specifying, and problem-solving.
* Promote innovation and advancement in technology through research and participation in design initiatives.
* Meet programme requirements by completing activities on time and budget.
* Demonstrate expertise in design principles, materials selection, optimisation, and 3D modelling.
* Contribute to continuous improvement, reviewing technology, processes, and outcomes, and implementing new initiatives.
* Collaborate with external design and manufacturing experts as required.
* Pursue ongoing professional development to meet programme needs.
* Communicate information effectively to support decision-making.
* Nurture constructive relationships with colleagues.
* Manage supplier liaison according to vendor management process requirements.
* Benchmark customer understanding and market awareness to enhance customer service.
* Deliver complex NPI activities within specified time, cost, and quality parameters.
Requirements:
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant engineering principles and competence centre fields.
* Background in product design, development, and/or continuous improvement in a technical/engineering/manufacturing discipline.
* Awareness of effective design activity planning and implementation.
* Strong analytical and critical reasoning skills, with solution implementation.
* Excellent communication and networking skills, with drive, initiative, and self-motivation.
* Ability to balance competing priorities and drive issues to completion.
* Awareness of markets and customers.
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience in areas such as materials selection, sheet metal design, or smart controls would be beneficial.
* Technical experience and advanced knowledge of own or professional discipline, along with a working knowledge of other disciplines.
* Relevant degree and/or professional qualification, or substantial hands-on operational experience in Mechanical Design R&D/Engineering environment.
* Significant post-qualification experience in various engineering and new product design roles.
