Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is one of Ireland’s largest acute teaching hospitals, providing adult, psychiatric, and age-related healthcare on one site. Purpose of the Role
The Senior Physiotherapist will work with chronic pain patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team, assessing and managing patients in outpatient MDT clinics as part of the Ulysses Pain Management Programme.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
1. Undertake assessments, create individual treatment plans, and provide effective treatment to all referred patients.
2. Set and maintain high standards of clinical practice.
3. Ensure the privacy and dignity of patients are respected at all times.
4. Liaise with patients, carers, and health professionals to ensure a holistic approach to care.
5. Maintain communication with Consultants, GPs, and community care teams for early discharge and follow-up.
6. Keep abreast of current changes in clinical practice by attending seminars and courses.
7. Maintain accurate records to comply with legal requirements and support clinical studies.
8. Participate in weekend, bank holiday, and on-call rota.
9. Attend clinics, team meetings, and/or ward rounds as necessary.
Education and Training
1. Participate in departmental in-service training and teaching programs.
2. Organize and facilitate national and international courses.
3. Supervise, teach, and advise junior staff and students.
4. Liaise with teaching staff for clinical training and assessment of therapy students.
5. Facilitate and supervise undergraduate research projects.
6. Participate in multi-disciplinary and multi-centred trials.
Administration
1. Organize and provide therapy services for patients in the assigned specialty area.
2. Promote and oversee the development of the specialty and career development of team members.
3. Maintain records as required.
4. Participate in clinical audit activities to monitor standards.
5. Comply with departmental policies on data collection and health and safety guidelines.
6. Conduct regular appraisals with staff.
7. Advise manager on planning and development of specialty area.
8. Ensure a safe working environment and report any accidents.
9. Assist with the induction of junior staff.
10. Read and act upon all staff policies.
11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Therapy Manager.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Must Have:
1. Hold a recognized Physiotherapy qualification.
2. Be registered on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by CORU.
3. Demonstrate evidence of recent formal continuing professional development relevant to the specialty.
4. Have a minimum of 3 years full-time post-qualification clinical experience; candidates with 2.5 years may apply for a panel.
5. Experience in the treatment and management of chronic pain/long-term conditions.
6. Have the clinical, managerial, and administrative capacity to fulfill the role's functions.
7. Maintain annual registration on the Physiotherapists Register.
8. Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE.
9. Must have a valid EU work permit/visa.
Desirable Criteria
1. A clinical post-graduate Masters qualification.
2. Experience supervising junior therapists and/or students.
3. Recent experience in an acute hospital setting.
4. Fully on-call competent.
5. Experience delivering treatment in a group setting.
Reward & Recognition
1. Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3158.
2. The appointment is full-time, permanent, and pensionable.
3. Annual leave entitlement is 29 working days per year.
4. Normal working hours are 35 hours over 5 days, with potential changes between 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days.
