TEMPORARY FULL TIME DAY SERVICES TEAM LEADER (SENIOR INSTRUCTOR SUPERVISOR GRADE), KILKENNY SERVICES
Tenure of Employment
This post is temporary where applicants are invited to act up in a temporary capacity working 78 hours per fortnight. Compulsory retirement age is 70 years.
Qualifications and Experience
* Have a relevant third level qualification in training, education or social care.
* An appropriate management qualification and relevant management experience is desirable.
* Have the ability and experience to facilitate the delivery of training modules to people with intellectual disabilities and encourage and motivate the development of their skills.
* Possess a full clean current driving licence.
* Experience supporting individuals with autism would be an advantage.
* Experience of developing accredited training programmes would be an advantage.
* Experience of working as a member of a team is essential.
3. Remuneration
Salary Scale (full time) –Senior Supervisor/Instructor Scale
€38,238; €39,097; €40,338; €41,624; €42,958; €44,339; €45,770; €47,252; €48,790; €50,382; €52,055 LSIs
*Successful candidates are required to submit all documentary evidence outlining any relevant experience within 3 months of starting date. Failure to do so will mean that any incremental credit due will only be paid from date of submission of documents.
*All new entrants to the Public Service will start at the first point of this scale.
4. Duties
The general duties of the appointment are as described in the attached Job Description.
5. Health
The successful candidate must be free from any condition, which would render him/her unsuitable to hold the appointment, and must be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. To satisfy this qualification, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical examination by the Occupational Health Nurse/Physician. The candidate will be liable for the cost of the medical examination.
6. Duties
The person appointed should have the ability to proactively lead, manage and motivate the team across a variety of day services within the Kilkenny region. This person will also have a lead role in the development and delivery of training programmes, in which they will effectively audit on a regular basis. They will inspire and motivate the ongoing development of effective teamwork of these programmes.
7. Advocacy and Rights

* Uphold and respect the human, legal and constitutional rights of individuals supported by the Services, recognising their individuality and equality, and empowering them to grow, thereby achieving the highest possible level of personal autonomy.
* Facilitate, encourage and develop the choice and decision making skills of individuals.
* Facilitate, encourage and develop the self-advocacy skills of and opportunities for involvement in advocacy of individuals.
* Enable individuals supported by the Services to pursue and maintain their individual hobbies and interests.
* Facilitate individuals supported by the Services to actively participate and integrate into the community, through use of generic community facilities.
8. Support to the individual
* Inquire/explore with the individual and their family a vision for a good, full, inclusive life.
* Act as a “Key Worker” for specific persons.
* Support the individual in the implementation of this plan.
* Support the individual to develop their skills in the areas of Skills Training, Communication, Behaviour Support Plans, Independent living, Social Integration, Personal Care, and Personal Development.
* Seek out opportunities for the individual to participate in social, work or training activities of their choice in socially inclusive settings.
* Support individuals to develop their skills through structured training modules.
* Implement behaviour support plans as directed by the multidisciplinary team.
* Foster, encourage and develop the self-help and social skills of the individual.
* Identify risks inherent in the provision of support to the individual, assess and document appropriately.
* Administer medication as prescribed.
9. Management & Leadership
* Oversee the management/running of a number of day services.
* Develop and deliver programmes tailored to meet individual needs.
* Co-ordinate all aspects of services provided within the centres.
* Lead the team in ensuring individuals achieve training outcomes in line with New Directions.
* Manage the attendance and performance of staff assigned to the Centres.
* Report to the Services Manager regularly on all aspects of the service.
10. Communication
* Convene, attend and participate fully in regular staff team meetings.
* Ensure good and respectful communications and relationships are developed with individuals supported by the services and their families.
* Develop and maintain good relationships with local residents and community organisations.
11. Training & Development
* Attend and contribute appropriately at lectures, courses and meetings.
* Liaise with the Training Department regarding identification of the training needs of staff.
* Attend mandatory training courses and achieve required standard.
12. Health & Safety
* Be conscious of health and safety matters in the workplace.
* Carry out regular Health and Safety Audits and Fire Drills.
