Our client, a well-established consultancy specialising in Sustainable Infrastructure, Circular Economy, Environment, and Renewable Energy, is looking to recruit a Principal Ecologist to join their growing team. This role is based in Cork and offers an excellent opportunity for career development within a dynamic and expanding organisation.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years of professional experience and will play a key role in delivering high-quality ecological consultancy services across a diverse range of projects, including renewable energy, waste management, and civil infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Manage individual contracts to deliver exceptional ecological consultancy services.
* Provide expert ecological input for various projects.
* Plan, conduct, and oversee ecological site surveys and fieldwork.
* Prepare and monitor the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans.
* Undertake Appropriate Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and contribute to Biodiversity Chapters within Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs).
* Produce detailed and accurate technical reports and deliverables.
* Ensure quality assurance, attention to detail, and timely delivery of contracts to the highest standards.
* Act as an expert witness at oral hearings.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and collaborate with design teams as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
* A degree in ecology or a related field.
* A minimum of 10 years' experience in environmental consultancy.
* Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM, CIWEM, or equivalent).
* Experience in the oral hearing process and acting as an expert witness.
* Comprehensive knowledge of wildlife and conservation legislation in Ireland.
* Proven technical report writing skills.
* Experience in preparing and monitoring Construction Environmental Management Plans.
* Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication, organisational, and project management skills.
* A full, clean driving licence.
