What you can expect in a typical day:
The Project Manager is a technical role encompassing the full spectrum of capital investment project delivery from concept through design, implementation/construction and commissioning. This involves coordination of all engineering disciplines: Process Design, Mechanical and Piping, Electrical/Instrumentation and Controls, Civil/Structural and Construction. The role requires the coordination of resources for safe delivery of projects in accordance with customer technical, financial and timeline constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will support other Project Manager(s)/Engineers and the Capital Project Manager in the delivery of allocated Project works from concept to final delivery and handover to the customer.
Specific Responsibilities include:
1. Identify and engage with project stakeholders to agree an understanding of project drivers and requirements.
2. Work projects through the Irving Oil IDEA standard for project lifecycle process.
3. Identify and document agreed project concepts (I-Phase).
4. Develop project cost estimates, timelines and plans for execution (D-Phase).
5. Execute project construction/implementation in accordance with signed off and agreed scope, schedule and cost (E-Phase).
6. Conduct reviews, lessons learned as necessary after project implementation (Achieve Phase).
7. Effective written and verbal reporting throughout the project lifecycle to all applicable levels in the organization.
8. Maintain communication with stakeholders to ensure continued buy-in for agreed project plan. Anticipate and address any issues accordingly.
9. Coordinate in a fully conversant manner on all technical aspects of project delivery with the relevant engineering discipline specialists, securing agreement on design deliverables.
10. Work with project controls, the Engineering Design Manager, Finance and Refinery Leadership as necessary to ensure resources are secured for projects, and that monthly expenditure is forecasted accurately to aid overall portfolio management.
11. Work with Supply Management to ensure all applicable governance is applied and appropriate approvals are sought for the sourcing of materials, and services to deliver projects.
12. Identify all applicable regulatory and industry/company standards applicable and ensure compliance with same including planning permission as necessary.
13. Ensure the preparation of all applicable design documentation to support construction management, including safety and health plans, scopes of work, drawings, inspection and test plans (ITP), schedules and constructability reviews.
14. Support the construction team in the delivery of the constructed assets associated with your project, coordinating technical clarifications from the design team in line with customer requirements and project budget.
15. Support the QA/QC role in ensuring all applicable project documentation is recorded in line with ITP’s and collated for ATC/PSSR.
16. Work with Document Control to ensure project documentation is collated and distributed appropriately, meeting minutes are issued, and project handover records are put on file.

Education and experience:
1. Level 8 degree qualified in one of the core engineering disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument & Control, Process or equivalent with project management experience.
2. 5+ years track record on project delivery.
3. Strong understanding of working within project approval phases (e.g. FEL, IDEA) and application of project management processes.
4. Knowledge of health and safety legislation including Construction Design Management.
5. Understand the need for quality within the projects and familiarity with quality assurance documentation.
6. Track record of developing project cost estimates and for managing within approved project budget.
7. Strong business acumen and demonstrated aptitude for understanding and delivering on requirements.
