Shape the Face of Cancer Treatment at Luminate Medical
At Luminate, we build technologies that help oncologists make cancer care better, faster, and safer for patients. Our first two products, Lily and Lilac, are revolutionary wearable devices designed to address hair loss and peripheral neuropathy respectively – two of the most common and difficult side effects of cancer treatment. Our long-term vision is to help every cancer patient get treatment at home.
We are looking for a Research Engineer/Scientist to answer key cross-project research driven questions. You will use scientific and engineering principles and methods to investigate, test and solve deeply technical questions at the frontier of engineering and healthcare to help us build better products.
You will need to enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be passionate about working with people. Most of all, you will need to be driven by contributing applied research to products to optimise performance and analysis, making a real-world patient impact.
The Research Scientist/Engineer will help shape the product development cycle of new patient-facing medical devices for people undergoing cancer treatment. This role offers applicants the chance to work as a researcher within industry with academic collaborations. You will work in a fast-paced environment close to the product R&D team to help deliver exciting and meaningful medical devices. You will join one of Ireland’s most valuable and well-funded growth-stage companies as an early employee with high-level insight into the growth of a start-up company.
Working at Luminate Medical

* Partake in brainstorming activities with the R&D teams to root cause technical issues and propose technical solutions using fundamental engineering principles.
* Lead literature reviews of existing technologies and methodologies to ensure that we are aligned with the state-of-the-art.
* Deep dive investigation of fundamental mechanism of actions from a fluid dynamics and physiological perspective.
* Develop prototype testing methods to assess the accuracy, repeatability and reliability of devices.
* Use predictive engineering tools to assess impact of alternative designs and parameters on end products.
* Carry out comparative analysis on multiple designs and testing techniques.
* Disseminate findings internally through presentations and reports.
* Identify publication and IP opportunities.

* PhD in science or engineering.
* Published research.
* Experience using predictive engineering tools, ideally FEA and/or CFD.
* Test method development with analysis of measurement error, method verification & validation.
* Statistical analysis of test results for mechanical and electrical signals for normal and non-normal data.
Experience Advantages – It Would be Advantageous to Have:
* Previous experience working on the design of a new product that received medical device regulatory approval.
* Proficient in CAD.
* Experience testing and analysing pneumatics and/or fluidic systems.
