Job Title: CNM 2 in Urology and Gynaecology Theatre
The post of CNM 2 has a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area.
Main Responsibilities:
* Quality assurance
* Resource management, staffing and staff development
* Practice development
* Facilitating communication and professional/clinical leadership
Essential Criteria:
* Candidate must be registered in the Division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland active register for which the application is being made
* Have a minimum five years post-registration nursing experience including a minimum of three years clinical experience in the specialist area (Urology and Gynaecology)
* Possess a Higher Diploma in Theatre Nursing
* Possess a Management qualification
Post-Specific Requirements:
* Clinical Expertise in Urology/Gynaecology Surgery
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in urological and gynaecological surgical procedures
* Familiarity with specialized urology and gynaecology equipment, including laser systems, endoscopic instruments, lithotripsy devices and advancements in Urological and Gynaecological Services
* Demonstrate knowledge of all General Surgical Emergency surgeries
Leadership & Team Management:
* Experience in leading, managing, and supporting theatre nursing teams in a high-pressure environment
* Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams, ensuring safe and efficient patient flow in the urology theatre
Theatre & Patient Safety Standards:
* Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing care, infection control protocols, and theatre safety guidelines
* Commitment to maintaining best practices in surgical site infection prevention, instrument sterilisation, and adherence to HIQA and HSE standards
Staff Development & Education:
* Experience in mentoring, training, and developing staff in urology theatre nursing, including junior nurses and student nurses
* Ability to identify learning needs and facilitate education sessions on urological procedures and post-operative care
Operational & Resource Management:
* Experience in theatre scheduling, rostering, and ensuring the efficient use of theatre resources
* Understanding of budgetary management and cost-effective utilisation of consumables and surgical instruments
Quality Improvement & Risk Management:
* Proven ability to lead quality improvement initiatives within the urology theatre
* Experience in incident reporting, risk assessments, and implementing measures to enhance patient safety
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
* Ability to work closely with consultant urologists, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless surgical care
* Strong communication skills to liaise with ward teams, outpatient services, and management regarding patient care pathways
Continuous Professional Development:
* Commitment to ongoing education, training, and research in urology nursing and perioperative care
* Active participation in national and hospital-based urology and theatre nursing initiatives
