ADON, Leopardstown Care Centre – Rehabilitation Unit
Leopardstown Care Centre is now establishing the management team to lead and manage the Rehabilitation Unit. We are inviting applicants for Assistant Director of Nursing with an interest and background in Rehabilitation to join the team.
Position Overview:
The post of Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a senior clinical position which reports to the Director of Nursing. The role will be responsible for providing clinical leadership, managing the day-to-day clinical practices in the care centre, appropriate staff rostering, delegation and supervision, performance and development, clinical governance and assessment of risks.
The ADON will work collaboratively with the DON and Healthcare Manager as part of the senior management team in the care centre, providing clear communication and direction and deputising for the DON as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Clinical Practice
o Ensure the delivery of the highest standards of nursing and social care which meet the individual needs of each resident by:
+ Ensuring that the care centre policies and expected clinical standards are read, understood and practiced at all times.
+ Conducting ward rounds (including those with GP) to ensure that the best clinical outcomes are consistently achieved.
+ Reviewing nursing documentation to ensure it reflects the care and treatment required by each resident.
+ Reviewing residents at increased risk of pressure sores, falls and other adverse events, providing advice and support.
+ Participate in handover and help troubleshoot ongoing clinical issues, escalating to the Director of Nursing as appropriate.
+ Ensuring medication practices are carried out according to NMBI guidelines and centre’s policies.
+ Undertaking regular MAMS Medicines audits in the care centre and ensuring effective feedback and action plans are undertaken.
1. Staff Supervision & Education
* Support the CNMs in the centre and provide direction, mentorship and regular communication.
* Maintain a visible presence in the clinical areas and monitor practice in relation to care practices.
* Carry out regular Performance Appraisals and education & professional development objectives.
* Assess education needs and implement in-house training.
* Participate in regular communication with staff and help develop a team ethos.
* Produce the roster in collaboration with DON, ensuring compliance with agreed staffing levels.
2. Auditing
* Regularly review residents’ documentation, ensuring appropriate and timely assessments, care planning and implementation of care.
* Monitor standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and foster effective communication between staff.
* Ensure environmental and hand hygiene audits are carried out regularly.
* Responsible for carrying out medication audits, health & safety audits, and risk assessments.
3. Residents/Relatives - Person Centred
* Interact with and support residents and families on a daily basis.
* Ensure complaints are swiftly dealt with and appropriately documented.
* Assist and liaise with the multidisciplinary team, relatives and families.
4. Management and Communication
* Responsible for day-to-day clinical practices and for the care centre in the absence of the DON.
* Maintain open, honest and clear communication at all times.
* Act as a role model of excellent nursing care and practice.
* Engage in supervising staff and monitoring compliance with clinical standards.
Daily Activities:
* Check staff rosters and arrange cover for absences.
* Attend handovers and review progress of residents.
* Support and develop clinical practice.
* Implement Company Health and Safety Policy to safeguard the safety and welfare of staff and residents.

Qualifications:
* A minimum of 7 years post registration experience.
* A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Clinical Nurse Manager or above.
* Experience working in a rehabilitation setting or equivalent.
* Post registration management qualification in health or a related field.
* First level registration and registered on appropriate part of Irish live register.
* Evidence of continuous Professional Development.
* Previous management experience.
