"Embrace the opportunities that come your way, even if they appear daunting, these are usually the ones that you can learn the most from."
What does your job involve?
I am the Event-Coordinator for 'IKON' - Kingspan's Global Innovation Centre based in Kingscourt, Ireland. My role is varied meaning that my day-to-day tasks can change daily subject to the business's needs. As a member of the IKON Events Team, we strive to provide memorable experiences for every visitor that visits IKON.
Daily, I conduct tours of IKON which answer the big questions surrounding the construction industry. The tour highlights areas such as Innovation, Digitalisation, Research & Development and Planet Passionate along with a state of the art chemical lab with full scale chemical testing for the next generation of existing products and new developments. I collaborate closely with colleagues, customers, and external clients from start to finish regarding their event requirements, streamlining and guaranteeing the very best visitor experience.
As part of my role, I also get the opportunity to be involved in projects such as the IKON Series, a series of industry specific events hosted in IKON where speakers throughout the businesses can nominate topics of their choice, some of the most recent including1. Delivering Digital,2. Our Embodied Carbon Vision3. Digital Twins. As Kingspan is a company with +20,000 employees working across the globe, here at IKON, we look after the live streaming and the organisation of these events - allowing such occasions to be accessible to all divisions globally.
What is the most interesting project you’ve been involved with?
I started my role in Kingspan in April 2022, I think it is indicative of the company culture that as a new starter I have been so fortunate to be involved in several projects so early on in my career. One of the highlights was being involved with the organisation of the Customer Experience (CX) Masterclass in Manchester hosted by the Group Digital Team. Not only was I given the opportunity to organise the event, I also got invited to join the 2-day session where I gained invaluable insights.
What advice would you give to a new Graduates joining our Company?
I studied a Bachelor of Commerce in International Business and Hotel Management through Shannon College while studying for a year on the main campus of the University of Galway. Having graduated in March ’22, I never in my wildest dreams would have envisaged my first role outside of my degree to be within a manufacturing company - which is my first job ever out of the hospitality industry since I started working in a local hotel at the age of 16. However, I stumbled across this role online and I knew straight away that this was something I really wanted and I have never looked back. The moral of the story is to take the leap, believe in your capabilities, and remember that you will never progress by remaining inside your comfort zone. Embrace the opportunities that come your way, even if they appear daunting, these are usually the ones that you can learn the most from.
What excites you most about Kingspan?
The people and the culture surrounding Kingspan is the aspect that excites me the most about the company. I have met employees who work across all divisions internationally coming through the doors of IKON and the most significant learning I have taken away is how willing people are to support and guide you throughout your journey in the company. Working from the Digital Lab and FutureSpace in IKON, I have observed and learned from those who are advancing our digitalisation strategy, providing solutions that excite our customers and delivering a momentous change, adding value to both our business and our customers businesses.
