About Cycling Without Age Ireland:
Cycling Without Age Ireland is a wholly volunteer-run, award-winning registered Irish charity dedicated to spreading the CWA movement throughout Ireland. www.cyclingwithoutage.ie
The movement started in 2012 in Denmark, when Ole Kassow wanted to help neighbours in a nursing home get back on their bikes, but mobility proved to be a stumbling block. The answer was to provide free bike rides on a trishaw to the residents. Having grown up with a father who used a wheelchair, he knew first hand what the lack of mobility meant - stigma and isolation. The trishaw offered the perfect solution allowing 2 passengers on a comfortable bench seat to be cycled, slowly and safely, around their local area, and feel the wind in their hair once more.
Cycling Without Age was brought to Ireland in 2017 by volunteer Clara Clark, and her mission then, and now, is to see a trishaw available for use in every town in Ireland so that anyone who cannot cycle for themselves is given the opportunity to reconnect with the community in a unique and fun way. www.cyclingwithoutage.ie for more details.
There are now 65 trishaws in Ireland located in nursing homes, community hospitals, or for public use through local authorities, Local Sports Partnerships, various voluntary groups and social enterprises.
