Our client is a leading multi-disciplined engineering consultancy providing design, fire safety and technical services to a range of sectors including; Data Centre, Pharmaceutical, Retail, Residential, Government & Commercial build.
Seeking a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer with a consultancy background to act as a lead on-site for a major data center project.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring mechanical design compliance, conducting peer reviews, and validating the Engineer of Record (EOR) requirements.
This is an on-site role requiring presence full-time or at least Monday to Thursday.
Mechanical Design Validation – Conduct peer reviews comparing as-designed vs. as-installed systems.
Compliance & Standards – Ensure compliance with industry best practices, BCAR regulations, and client performance specifications.
Inspection & Certification Support – Work alongside inspection team to validate airflows, pipework, ducts, and valves.
MEP Coordination – Collaborate with other disciplines to address design gaps, derogations, and value-engineered solutions.
Tagging Process Oversight – Ensure progress from Red to White Tagging, supporting system readiness.
Redundancy & Power Validation – Verify backup systems, UPS, and battery configurations meet design requirements.
Stakeholder Liaison – Interface with the client, contractors, and on-site teams to ensure alignment.
Reporting & Documentation – Provide regular updates on design compliance, risk mitigation, and certification progress.
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
15+ years of mechanical design experience in data centers, mission-critical, or large commercial projects.
Proven consultancy background with experience in design validation, peer reviews, and compliance checking.
Strong HVAC, piping, fire protection, and cooling systems knowledge.
Understanding of BCAR compliance, CIBSE, ASHRAE, and other relevant standards.
Ability to work on-site full-time or Monday-Thursday (flexibility required).
Experience with BIM/Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks preferred.
Strong communication skills to liaise with contractors, inspectors, and clients.
