A panel may be formed as a result of this recruitment process from which subsequent Permanent, Temporary Staff Nurse appointments within the Service location may be offered over the next 6 months.
Locations across Galway City and County - particularly in the Knocknacarra, Oranmore, Claregalway and South Connemara areas.
DESCRIPTION OF OUR SERVICES
The Brothers of Charity Services provide a wide range of services to people with an intellectual disability and their families. The services range from Early Intervention Services for young children through to School Age Services with a variety of programmes for Adults. Our services include educational, day, residential, respite, family support with a range of multidisciplinary support services and supports to individuals who live independently.
Adults West Galway Services operates a range of services including Day, Residential, Respite, Community outreach, education, employment opportunities, Individualised services, and leisure activities which are geographically dispersed though the West Galway Sector Adult Services. Our Services are person-centred focusing on the needs and abilities of adults with intellectual disabilities.

Staff allocation could be either within residential/day settings or in community services or in an individual’s family home. The appointee will initially commence working in one particular area of the service, and this work location may change due to future service needs.
Reporting/Responsible To:
Team Leader/Residential Services Manager/Area Manager
Qualifications & Experience:
1. A current Live Register Certificate from the NMBI (An Bord Altranais), RNID or RGN qualification is essential.
2. Candidates must have a current full clean manual Irish driving licence; this is an essential requirement of the post.
Experience: Experience and an appreciation of the responsibilities of the post and issues affecting the everyday lives of individuals with an Intellectual Disability is desirable. Full training will be provided.

1. Good judgement, discretion and confidentiality.
2. The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms, and to communicate sensitively with family members and work with them for the best outcomes.
3. Creative problem-solving skills.
4. The ability to work independently and seek support from multi-disciplinary colleagues as appropriate.
5. Patience, flexibility, creativity and eagerness to become involved in a range of activities.
6. Ability to educate other staff and family members in positive health promotion needs.
7. The successful candidate will be required to co-operate in a team environment with a person-centred philosophy.
Working Hours:
Various Contracts Available - Staff Nurse/Enhanced Nurse appointments permanent, temporary or fixed term, full time or part time.
All posts are based on a 14-day duty roster. The successful candidate will be required to work days, evenings, weekends, public holidays, and night duty to meet service needs.
Annual Leave:
24 days pro rata per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Appropriate service-related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.
Remuneration:
Department of Health salary scales apply:
1. Staff Nurse - €33,193 pro-rata per annum x 12 increments - €49,385 pro rata per annum.
2. Enhanced Nurse - €40,077 pro rata per annum x 7 increments - €51,018.
The Brothers of Charity Services model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.
Tenure:
A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent permanent, temporary or fixed term Staff Nurse appointments within the Service location may be offered over the next 6 months.
Probation:
A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Brothers of Charity Services model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible and creative in their approach and in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.
Specific Conditions:
1. Staff must have a positive attitude towards working with persons with an intellectual disability and help to ensure that they lead as normal and enjoyable a life as possible.
2. Staff must treat each person with an intellectual disability as an individual and at all times acknowledge and respect the rights and personal dignity of the person with an intellectual disability.
3. Staff are required to establish and maintain relationships with adults with disabilities that are based on respect and equality and that promote their independence.
Main duties and functions:
1. Develop a good working relationship with families and key people involved with the people supported by the services, as appropriate.
2. Actively pursue and ensure the delivery of a person-centred service, through the delivery of Personal Outcomes.
3. Record and monitor outcomes and track progress.
4. Be aware of and take responsibility in ensuring compliance with HIQA standards.
5. Formulate and implement programmes designed for the needs of the individual.
6. Take responsibility for the supply, storage, stock and administration of medications in accordance with the policy of the Service.
7. Assist the people we support with personal banking and ensuring adherence to the National Guidelines on managing individual’s finances.
8. Promote community integration and maximum participation for the individual.
9. Support and direct the work of Support Workers and provide feedback and direction as required.
10. Ensure that individual’s money is spent according to their wishes and all that appropriate records are kept of same in line with policy.
The role of the post holder will not be limited by reference to this Job Description. It would be expected that the role will evolve as professional, structural and people supported demands change and the post holder will be expected to demonstrate flexibility skills that will facilitate this.
