This leadership position will be instrumental in transforming Unum from a traditional insurance player to a leading data-first digital insurance company.As the Director of Analytics for Decision Technologies, you will partner closely with business leaders in researching a wide range of topics. To be successful in this role, you must be able to lead a team in real business applications, construct statistical insights/models with your teammates, and build and implement solutions with engineers. Furthermore, you will provide strategic analytical input using new data assets and tools to improve and transform existing business processes, customer experience, and business results. In this role, you will serve as a vital link between data and analytics development by UDT Data Scientists and business partners, assisting in the optimization of business performance.Job SpecificationsBachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Information Technology, Mathematics, or Statistics preferred.A minimum of 8+ years hands-on experience acting as a Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Program Manager (analytical projects), or Product Owner (analytical products). Based on specific team composition and goals, one discipline may carry more weight than the others.Proven ability to develop, coach, and lead technical staff.Experience with analytics programming languages (SQL/R/Python) or equivalent practical experience supporting technical teams that use these programming languages.Understanding of data profiling, statistical analysis, and data modeling concepts as it relates to solving business problems.Familiarity in extracting, loading, and leveraging data in data warehouses, transactional databases, object stores, and API-based environments.Data Architecture and Infrastructure: Good understanding of data architecture principles and related infrastructure requirements, covering on-prem and Cloud platforms.Strong problem-solving, project management, and storytelling skills.Excellent ability to interpret or correlate an extensive variety of information and decompose complex analytical and technical problems and translate them into simple business solutions to be presented to key stakeholders.Ability to think conceptually, handle ambiguity, solve complex problems, and make thoughtful recommendations.Excellent communication skills and abilities working with all corporate levels, including senior management and external contacts.Principal Duties And ResponsibilitiesResponsible for defining their team's analytics strategy in partnership with Leadership across the organization. Define the tools, methodologies, and staff mix utilized by the team as well as project priorities for the department.Define, develop, and implement best practices in support of data & analytics projects to drive consistency and standardization of data usage and analytics practices.Drive business stakeholder buy-in for data consumption, operationally and analytically.Responsible for recruiting, training, performance management, coaching, development, and retention of staff at its highest level. Builds bench strength, retaining and motivating high performers.Oversees the UDT Data Scientists in the construction of statistical insights, predictive models, and analytics workflows in support of operational and analytics objectives.
