Travel Network Engineer Our client is seeking a skilled Firewall Engineer to join their Security Services Team and assist with implementing small, medium, and large-scale enterprise projects. The Firewall Engineer will be responsible for making necessary adjustments to the firewall estate to ensure optimal performance and security. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in firewall administration, with experience configuring and managing firewall devices in line with security policies. About the Company Our client provides IT and Telecoms services across multiple business units, supporting a diverse range of users and over 200 sites throughout Ireland. Their role is to establish a solid IT foundation, manage systems integration, set IT policy standards, and lead information risk activity across all operations. Responsibilities and Duties Firewall Administration: Configure and manage firewall devices to align with project requirements while upholding security standards. Firewall Design: Assist the Firewall Architecture function in defining rulesets on the client's Palo Alto Firewall estate, including input on High-Level Design, Low-Level Design, and Change Requests. Project Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, network engineers, and developers, to ensure firewall requirements are met throughout project phases. Support Security Services: As a firewall expert, provide assistance to the wider Security Services team, including covering similar roles during leave periods. Operational Oversight: Support the Firewall Architecture function by overseeing operational activities related to firewalls, including those handled by third-party engineers (such as the Managed Service Provider). This includes being a key step in the CAB approval process and assessing changes in the operating environment. Cybersecurity Incident Management: Serve on the panel for major cybersecurity incident responses, working with the incident response team to contain incidents, mitigate damage, and restore operations. This role may involve on-call duties and occasional out-of-hours work during significant incidents. Work Relationships Reporting to: Security Services Manager Internal: Firewall Architect, wider IT team, and business teams Operating Companies: IT Managers and business teams External: Third-party suppliers and vendors Experience and Competencies Proficiency with Palo Alto firewalls Experience in firewall architectures within hybrid cloud (Azure) environments Strong knowledge of security processes and services Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both IT and business users Strong reporting and documentation skills Good presentation skills and ability to host meetings Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Strong interpersonal skills Qualifications and Certifications Relevant Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field Relevant certifications in Palo Alto firewall management Cybersecurity certifications are an advantage Experience working with third-party vendors Minimum of 3+ years of experience in firewall administration Strong technical background with good communication and leadership skills Experience with Aruba Networks is desirable HOW TO APPLY: If you are interested in this role - please apply for this role with your updated CV and I will be in touch to discuss your application in detail.
