Data Scientist Overview: VIOTAS is currently looking for a highly skilled and motivated data scientist to work with a team of data scientists, analysts and researchers in a fast-paced, innovative and sustainable work environment.
About VIOTAS: Established in Limerick, Ireland in 2013, VIOTAS set about designing and delivering new innovations to address the challenges posed by increased renewable generation in electrical grids: How can a grid be balanced when a large amount of electricity is coming from unpredictable renewable sources that are difficult to forecast and that change the fundamental principles of how grids operate?
In response, VIOTAS developed proprietary technologies that place electricity customers at the core of the solution.
By managing their electricity consumption and onsite generation in real-time, VIOTAS help balance the wider electricity grid.
The company then aggregates participating customers to form Virtual Power Plants which are traded in the electricity market, competing against conventional fossil fuel power stations.
This approach not only generates significant revenue for participating customers but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions.
With a global expansion strategy, VIOTAS currently has offices in Ireland, Poland, Australia and USA.
As a data scientist, you will work closely with data analysts, software engineers, and DevOps teams to implement best practices in data engineering, cloud computing, AI and machine learning pipeline automation.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement time-series forecasting models (e.g., ARIMAX, XGBoost, Random Forest… etc) to predict energy demand, pricing, and renewable energy generation.
Design and deploy AI-driven multi-objective optimisation algorithms and analytics to maximise the revenue of demand response services.
Extend forecasting model with exogenous parameters such as weather data into demand forecasting and energy generation models for solar and wind energy resources.
Apply ML-Ops practices and AutoML frameworks to accelerate model development and ensure seamless integration into production environments.
Perform data analytics, and ad hoc analysis using Python (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, Jupyter Notebook), SQL, Power BI or other business intelligence software.
Implement, test, and validate forecasting models and optimization frameworks to enhance operational efficiency and renewable resource utilization.
Monitor model performance, fine-tune hyperparameters, and conduct regular updates to maintain accuracy and relevance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement data-driven solutions.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data science and energy markets.

Experience in developing optimisation algorithms, data analytics and visualisation.
Familiarity with DevOps and data engineering practices, such as workflow orchestration with airflow, etl/elt.
Excellent communication, problem-solving skills and collaboration skills.
Preferred Requirements: Master's degree in computer science, data science, engineering or physics.
Knowledge of energy markets, trading, and regulatory environments.
Knowledge of weather data APIs and forecasting tools (e.g., NOAA, ECMWF, or other meteorological platforms).
