Forestry & Transport Manager
PE Global are delighted to be working with Ireland’s Leading Timber Processing Unit, and are now actively recruiting for a Forestry and Transport Manager for their sawn timber business. This role will be based in Fermoy but will require travel to private forestry growers in the midlands region.
The role is based in Fermoy for approx. three days a week and the successful candidate will be required to travel forests/lots across the southern region for the other two days per week.
Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Forestry – Ireland, this is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a dynamic forestry team in Ireland. The candidate will be part of the team ensuring the supply of timber to our Fermoy sawmill while responsible for the coordination of transport for timber in and out of the operation.
Forestry and Transport Manager key responsibilities;
Forestry:
1. Log Procurement – valuations of forest lots, purchases from Coillte, private growers and FSNI
2. Forest Site Management of the above H&S etc.
3. Management of TPMS (Forest service docket system)
4. Management & setting up of forest lots on NAV (Forestry Purchasing System).
5. Updating NAV with auction figures & purchases.
6. Updating NAV & LT with haulage costs fuel surcharges etc.
7. Sales of other forest products to third parties
8. Planning of all log intake to Fermoy
Transport / Logistic
9. Transport Management & planning of sawn timber / forestry haulage.
10. Management of residue materials in Fermoy and Longford, using external hauliers and monthly report of same
11. Log contractor recruitment & rate setting
12. Determining rates with transport companies and understand backloads.
13. Management & monitoring of log stock, residues and saw dust in Fermoy.
14. Scheduling of harvesting operations.
Industry:
15. Attending Coillte & FSNI quarterly reviews.
16. Taking part in marketing events Teagasc Talking timber & Tullamore show.
17. Attend Forest Industry transport (FITG) committee.
Candidate Profile
18. Proven experience as a forester in log procurement.
19. Experience in coordinating external haulier companies.
20. Relevant third level qualification in forestry is desirable.
21. Self-starter with ability to work as part of a team.
22. Knowledge of current legal requirements and guidelines as they relate to haulage.
23. Good analytical and problem-solving capabilities
24. Excellent organisational skills
25. Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
26. Membership of the Society of Irish Foresters or eligibility for membership is essential.
27. Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel.
28. Excellent IT skills.
